Culture Wars General - KiA Diet Coke Edition

I think it's more like, they went from throwing attractive women on the stage to throwing attractive men on the stage. Netflix would have you believe that there's this whole universe of charming rich handsome men that are just waiting to put a ring on the finger of any woman they come across.

I actually like Lollipop Chainsaw and I can tell you that this person has never played the game for what it is.

Buying a product out of sheer hatred and/or irony is still buying a product no matter what. Even if someone is trying to do so for shits and giggles, it still supports the company, and the company will still get more attention. None of this will happen if it's avoided.
You're only making yourself look like a fool by giving these people money for a product you claim to hate. Also unknowingly working against yourself.

That vlog might not fit that that thread but don't you like it when karma bites Kotaku's ass by being black listed by Nintendo?

One Youtuber dropped that comment who was worth to share.

Cabbusses (got hacked, under reconstruction)

This is giving me flashbacks of when Nintendo circumvented the traditional E3 show with Nintendo Direct. Nintendo has a history of being a canary in the coalmine for the status of gaming press. Kotaku should be panicking and trying to do anything to restore relations.

Afaik, nips consider someone black if they've been out in the sun too long and got tan. They'd never entertain the thought of making a character with African features, they'd rope themselves for even suggesting it.
Well they might now that major production companies are all in on ESG for favorable credit loans.

EDIT:

Speak of the devil and he shall reveal himself.

On their Investor Relations, Capcom, the creators of game franchises such as Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, and more have made a statement regarding their considerations during localization.

In their “Sustainability” section under “Relationship with Customers“, the company candidly explains that their localization process includes considering “Japanese norms” which could “can end up hurting users”.

You can read the full statement below:

Localization and culturalization

Capcom games are enjoyed worldwide. In the fiscal year ended March 2022, the percentage of home video games sold overseas was 83.1%. Naturally, translation (localization) of video games developed in Japanese is required so that game players around the world can enjoy them. The volume and importance of localization is increasing year after year due to factors such as improvements in game machine performance, support for online gameplay, and an increase in the number of languages accompanying a more diversified, global audience. As such, Capcom’s localization team is involved in game development from the initial stages.
By carrying out localization concurrently with development, rather than following completion of the Japanese language version as had been done in the past, Capcom is able to launch games simultaneously around the globe. What is more, depending on the country, simply translating games developed under Japanese norms can end up hurting users unexpectedly due to historical, religious, or cultural differences.
As such, we focus on employing staff from around the world to culturize the games so that they can be enjoyed by all, regardless of locale.
Emphasis: Ours

Localization has become a hot button issue in recent years as many games end up censored for their western release. Many times, this is a result of a platform-holder’s policies such as PlayStation copies of Alice Gear Aegis CX: Concerto of Simulatrix censoring outfits left untouched on platforms like the Nintendo Switch.

However sometimes, these changes come from the developer themselves.

I'm hearing conflicting things about Street Fighter 6. Some saying it's ultra pozzed/woke/censored, and others saying it's super based.

I'm not in to fighting games and haven't been following it. What do Kiwis think?

PS. Can the thread come out the containment board now the problem person seems to have fucked off?

Late reply, this is my more neutral opinion comparing to most people in SF thread.

It's a good example that compromises between ESG and Japanese design. Or at least that how you should expect if seeing any AAA or even AA Japanese games from now on.
As in on surface is more presentable with more progressive value but not so progressive value is a bit more obscured.

Drama:
1) Normal game mode.
Pretty much about female character model. These has been discussed many times in the SF thread.
Although, if I'm wanting to do defense, it's mostly art direction to go for more 3D realistic style rather than 3D animeish like Final Fantasy, female character face will look off in some intense expression or looking from certain angle.

Kimberly with her forehead and maybe not too far off for caricature looking.
Manon has buccal fat removed and sharp cheekbones face like some irl models or even celebrities, so not really most people thing. And anime hair doesn't help. Her lanky limbs are kinda freaky in some way.
Marisa is comically huge and muscular. Either a hard no or a yes from people. Silly gladiator helmet hairstyle.

Other thing like between 3D and artwork of characters, it's clearly character artworks making them looking more conventional attractive. Try search SF wikia for 3 characters I list above, check their gallery, you'll see.

Cammy original outfit with her bare butts can be unlock via some grinding in World tour mode. But for sake of Esport, I'm pretty sure that outfit is a no go if people (pro-players) play her on tournament screen.

Although, the current days acceptable of horny designs are showing off abs/tummy area, thighs and skin-tight or form fitting clothes Doesn't matter if somehow you can still see separate butt cheeks with the pants on, like Manon and Chun Li default outfit.
If you don't trust me about the "acceptable horny" design, look at OW Tracer, Widowmaker and Junker Queen. Apex Loba, Wattson with Thunder/Kawaii Kitty skin, Valkyrie with Heartbeat Harmonizer skin, Lifeline pirate queen - healing hunter

2) The World Tour game mode:
Avatar character creation, typical current days categorization "body type" and choosing "identity". Identity is pretty much pronouns for in game story and character animation in walking - idling.
But it boils down into no more separation or exclusive in some choices like hairstyle, facial hair, voices and clothings for both sexes. No such thing as choosing or mixing genital like Cyberpunk 2077.
Overall, you get a very robust character creation system, maybe able to create nicely looking characters or abomination or unironically the only one game you can create the femboy/cissy type. You can even change your avatar appearance in game as many as you want.

Clothing
You can dressing like NPCs in picture below as a male character,
SF6a.png
even one piece swim suit and bikini just fine. Although, for less repulsive, wearing one piece swimsuit or bikini, your male character doesn't have any dick bugle down there.
Technically, these NPCs in picture are from Mad Gear gang in SF or Final Fight lore, their outfit design is pretty much based on character Poison.
Beside that, you also get to find cat ear cosmetic and thigh high stockings that weebs and trannies like.
You don't get to see any NPCs being trannies or crossdresser though.

Representation, basically more blacks in theme and NPCs. Outfit and soundtrack being hip hop style more. Default avatar being a black man instead of white man.

There is this poster
SF6b.png
You only see "Subway for everyone" if you take the subway train in game and get to fight bunch of random thugs and Mad Gear gang NPCs in there with that timer in picture. It's less "trans right" being suggested in SF thread just because Poison in the picture, but more like a satire of "don't treat thugs like criminals even though they're still beating people". Think of how US niggers act in New York subway.
Still the poster is very wrong with SF story, because character Poison and Hugo (big guy next to her) aren't in Mad Gear gang since SF4, 5 and 3 (timeline order).

If you don't trust me about the "acceptable horny" design, look at OW Tracer, Widowmaker and Junker Queen.
Don't know what you mean about "acceptable". I still remember the "Tracer butt" controversy. The only reason the usual suspects didn't go harder on Overwatch is because they immediately started pandering to the Alphabet community and other SJWs as cover.

Pretty sure it's for manspreading, but I get that based on how they're all seated. Hands on lap, knees together, etc.

It's acceptable because it gets kept in game rather than removed on demand. But it was back in 2016, before Trump presidency broke so many people. Even Kaplan argued back the moron started idea on OW forums. Widowmaker has the same pose and yet wasn't included in complaints. Then in 2019, first LGBT card they played on Solider76 being gay right after Blitzchung drama in Hearthstone.

We both know SJW wokeness can't be satisfied, they complain anything is having hint of not progressive. They still play the game anyway, because they still like the gameplay and more importantly wanting in the cool kids club, the trendy game that everybody is playing. Like you keep seeing games journalist seething at police skin (D.Va, Brigitte and Tracer) in OW, except with pride event then Blizzard removes police car skin on one map. There is also Genshin Impact fandom with not having enough black characters.

The idea I was going for previous post is companies being usual maximizing profit. For AAA Japanese games and Game as live service, they play both sides. You have a "Diversity value" in product advertising for International (aka US/Western audience and ESG), while Japanese side or long term fan is just their usual "gamers fun". Think of Exoprimal advertisement on Twitch with drag queen streamers, while Japaneses get Hololive vtubers (Botan) stream the game instead.
Then down the line, with new contents as dlcs or limited events, you'll have more fanservice cosmetics.

This is my further rambling, if you want to read. Because my post feels too long already.
This is a kinda interesting case, think of how similar this one to ENVtuber on Twitch or Nijisanji dealing with political correct.

A game that I find quite fun and unique. Omega Strikers, an anime hockey game by few people from Riot Games and Respawn. They have Trigger studio makes one of the trailer and even quite notable Japanese voice actors on the character voicelines. Calliope Mori, more like Demon Dice, has a song for one of the character.

Few characters
Juliette.png Asher.png
Asher, orange hair one above, she also comes with jiggle physic in game.

Era.png
Era, this design is made by a woman.

Then as a Western company, so it's not a surprising they are also supporting Alphabet mental illness.
PLayOmega.png
Clearly, with certain degree of weeb, they can embrace fanservice and yet they still have some political correct ideology or duty because "it's the right thing to do" as a company. None of these mental illness thing are in game, well for now.
But for the most part, developers actually put efforts and care a lot for this game.

There are things I believe people still can find to enjoy and have fun, despite disagreement in politics or belief between customers and entertainment providers.
Separate between art and artist like they said. But I understand that can be hard to apply or just not for everyone or everything. Because most of the time said artists/entertainers can't even do separate between the art and themselves in current days.

There is currently drama going on with Skullgirls: 2nd Encore.

Once again, I'm totally detached from the fighting game community so I can't speak to specifics. From the shit flinging in the steam forum, asking a knowledgeable friend, and the flood of negative reviews, here's what I've gathered. Basically, the game is removing all references to "hate groups", including red arm bands, censoring a shit ton of art, and even changing story elements. I'll talk more about it in the censorship thread, but this all seems like typical woke pandering.

This tweet pretty much lays it out there for those who want to know and this tweet quote retweets the announcement. They are effectively censoring a product 10 years after its initial releasing, removing content from a product people have long already paid for just to virtue signal. They also removed the Russian announcer because of the War in Ukraine. However, the Russian announcer was a crowdfunding backer goal. So they removed something that crowd funders specifically paid to be in the game. I'm not even sure that's legal.

The only thing that's rising is my enormous large huge feminine girldick when I can finally play a marginalized but empowered fat queer androgynous blob that can change skin color, haircolor, pronouns & genitals in Cyberpunk.
You just reminded me of the term girldick raised from porn and its consequences. Consequences of inability to differentiate fiction from reality as they are addicted.

It's funny that people try to customize themselfs this hard irl and they end up looking ugly anyway.
