A man stabbed to death in a suspected anti-gay attack in Brooklyn was remembered as a talented, promising dancer Monday — as law enforcement sources said a 17-year-old high school student is being eyed in the crime.

O’Shae Sibley, 28, was allegedly attacked for “vogueing” — or performing a stylized modern dance routine — to Beyoncé’s hit “Renaissance” outside a gas station in Coney Island Saturday night, according to a pal who said he was present during the stabbing.

“They hated us cause we are gay!” Otis Pena, one of Sibley’s friends, fumed in a Facebook post, sharing grisly photos from the slaying. “[They were] screaming we Muslim and we don’t like gays!!!!! As we are innocently pumping gas and ya’ll decided to stab on one of us!!!”

Sibley was killed during a brawl that broke out between two groups of men around 11 p.m. at a Mobil gas station on Coney Island Avenue — which was caught on surveillance video obtained by The Post. The case is being investigated as a possible hate crime, police have said.

Sources on Monday said cops were looking for a 17-year-old boy who was captured on surveillance footage fighting with Sibley before he was stabbed in the chest, and then taking off in a black SUV.

The suspected killer, who was said to be Muslim, allegedly told Sibley and his pals that he was offended because they had been dancing shirtless in their swimming trunks, sources previously said.

In a Facebook Live video, Pena said that he, Sibley and some other friends were driving home after celebrating his birthday at the beach, when they decided to stop at the Mobil station located just two blocks from his house.

Pena said Sibley, his best friend of 15 years and “brother,” was killed in front of him.

“I’m trying to put pressure on the wound, and there’s blood squirting everywhere,” the anguished friend said, describing the harrowing scene.

“Happy birthday to me, right?”

Pena uploaded distressing images showing his hand coated in his butchered friend’s blood, and even more gore staining the ground where Sibley had been knifed to death.

Sibley, who moved to New York City three years ago to pursue a career in the arts, was a dancer and choreographer who took part in the Ailey Extension program, the studio said.

“The Ailey organization mourns the tragic death of O’Shae Sibley, who was a cherished and devoted participant in our Ailey Extension program of dance classes,” the studio said in a statement.

“O’Shae had incredible energy in the studio and was loved by instructors and fellow students. He recently shone during a special demonstration of West African dance at The Ailey Spirit Gala,” the statement said. “We are shocked and heartbroken that O’Shae’s life has been taken by senseless violence, and extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”

His aunt Tondra Sibley told Gothamist that her nephew was a “gentle spirit” who relocated to the Big Apple from his native Philadelphia in 2019 and was close to his family, including his mother and brother.

He had been looking forward to go on a trip to Disney World with his father this week, she said.

“Everyone that knew him knew that he was always smiling…he loved people, he loved dancing, he loved teaching dance,” she said.

The aunt called her nephew’s murder “senseless” and demanded justice for him.

“Why would a person feel they have the right [to kill] just because they disagree with them?” she wondered.

Last year, Sibley was part of “An Eclectic Dance to the Music of Time” — a video project by contemporary artist Jacolby Satterwhite that was featured in Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall.

He starred in six music video directed by his long-time friend and collaborator Kemar Jewel, who’d known Sibley from age 16 and came up with him in the black and Latino underground LGBTQ+ subculture known as the Ballroom scene.

“He was a bright eyed and goofy young man who had talent beyond anything I’d seen before,” Jewel wrote on Facebook. “He could sing, he could do hip hop, jazz, ballet, tap, anddddddd he was an incredible voguer! That’s how we became close.”

Jewel, the founder and creative director at JewelBox Productions, said that because Sibley was so versatile, he was always eager to showcase his protege’s skills as a dancer and choreographer in his various projects.

In 2021, Sibley was featured in Jewel’s 7-minute dance video titled “SOFT: A Love Letter to Black Queer Men,” billed as a “visual love letter” that uses contemporary dance “to help Black Queer men heal from trauma, connect as a community, and serve as a reminder to be SOFT with themselves and each other.”

While he still lived in Philadelphia, Sibley danced with the prestigious Philadelphia Dance Company, better known as Philadanco, which is renowned for preserving African-American traditions in dance.

“Anyone who ever met O’Shae was very blessed to know him,” Jewel wrote. “He was funny, unique, charismatic and always knew how to have a good time. Most importantly, he loved HARD!!! He went above and beyond for his loved ones and made sure no one was ever sad around him.”

The choreographer said that a few years ago, he and Sibley had found out that they were distant relatives.

“I remember O’Shae’s face when he found out, he was so happy that a bond that was made up was now cemented in real life,” Jewel recalled, adding that Sibley was “the closest thing to family” he ever had.

Chilling video from the gas station obtained by The Post showed the brawl that erupted with the group of men who encountered Sibley and his companions there.

The two sides exchanged words, before the dispute turned physical after a brief lull.

Sibley, dressed in neon-pink swimming trunks, is seen standing behind a black SUV seemingly in shock after being knifed.

He disappears from view as his friends and bystanders rush to his side — and the assailants begin to flee.

Sibley was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, but he could not be saved.

As of Monday, no arrests have been made in the deadly attack.

MIDWOOD, Brooklyn (WABC) -- Officials have released surveillance video showing the fight that ended with a deadly stabbing at a Brooklyn gas station.

It all began Saturday night around 11:15 at a Mobil gas station on Coney Island Avenue.

Video shows O'Shae Sibley and his friends at the pump, having fun and horsing around. That is when a customer in red shorts held the door, stepped outside, and exchanged words with the group.

Witnesses say that 17-year-old works at a smoke shop right around the corner. Sibley, wearing light-colored shorts with no shirt approached the man in the red shorts. The two began talking, and within seconds, the victim's friends joined in.

A witness then tried to intervene.

"'First of all, don't fight in the store, just leave,' I told both of them. They weren't listening," the witness said.

After a few minutes, cooler heads appear to prevail, leaving only the victim and suspect, who had his cell phone out, face-to-face.

Sibley walked away, and just as he was about to get in the car with his friends, things suddenly went south again with the two groups clashing.

The suspect and Sibley headed toward the sidewalk, where there was a scuffle. The suspect then stabbed the Sibley, who died. He was just 28 years old.

The suspect took off. Witnesses say he is someone who has caused trouble at the gas station before, comes in to use the bathroom and has an attitude with the workers.

Police are investigating this as a potential bias crime due to the victim's sexual orientation.

Sibley's next-door neighbor, Beckenbaur Hamilton, said there is no doubt in his mind it was a hate crime. He said Sibley was proud of who he was as an openly gay professional dancer.

Hamilton is also gay.

"You have to be careful how you present yourself, they don't live here in the neighborhood we live in, it's a very homophobic neighborhood," he said.

Ailey Extension released the following statement:

"The Ailey organization mourns the tragic death of O'Shae Sibley, who was a cherished and devoted participant in our Ailey Extension program of dance classes. O'Shae had incredible energy in the studio and was loved by instructors and fellow students. He recently shone during a special demonstration of West African dance at The Ailey Spirit Gala. We are shocked and heartbroken that O'Shae's life has been taken by senseless violence, and extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones."

The investigation into the stabbing is ongoing. No arrests have been made.

In the video it looks like the dead homo walked a significant way away from his vehicle towards the Muslim kid and then even followed him further past the store after the kid presumably started leaving. It would seem he escalated this more than the Muslim kid. He didn’t die anywhere close to his vehicle as far as I can make out in the video.

May legitimately be self defense here.

A dancer is fatally stabbed after a confrontation in New York, prompting a tribute from Beyoncé

NEW YORK (AP) — The fatal stabbing of a gay man after a confrontation between a group of friends who were dancing to a Beyoncé song and young men who apparently took offense has outraged New York City’s LGBTQ community and spurred Beyoncé herself to post a tribute on her website.

No arrests have been made in Saturday’s stabbing of O’Shae Sibley, a 28-year-old professional dancer, at a Brooklyn gas station.

Police have released few details on the investigation and haven’t discussed a motive, but a friend who was there, Otis Pena, said in an emotional Facebook video that Sibley died “because he stood up for his friends.”

Sibley performed with the dance company Philadanco in his native Philadelphia and in New York. He used dance to celebrate his LGBTQ identity in works such as “ Soft: A Love Letter to Black Queer Men,” choreographed by Kemar Jewel.

Sibley took classes with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s Ailey Extension program, whose director, Lisa Johnson-Willingham, said in a statement, “We are shocked and heartbroken that O’Shae’s life has been taken by senseless violence and extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”

Sibley was at a Mobil station in Brooklyn’s Midwood neighborhood with friends getting gas, listening to Beyoncé's “Renaissance” album “and just having a good time,” Pena said in his video.

News reports have widely described Sibley as having been stabbed while dancing, but security camera video shows a more complex situation.

The video, obtained by several news organizations, shows some of the men in Sibley’s group doing a dance-like strut by their car, shirtless in bathing suits. A short time later, Sibley walks to the gas station’s convenience store and starts speaking with a young man, who looks agitated. As they talk, a small crowd gathers.

Sibley’s friends join him and the group argues with the person for about two minutes. Then, both sides walk away. Sibley and his friends go back to their car. Everyone else goes inside the gas station’s convenience store except for one person who stays outside recording with his phone.

Sibley is about to get into a car when he and a friend freeze, then briskly stride back toward the person with the phone as if he had said something that angered them.

The young man, who looks like he could be in his teens, retreats, walking backward as Sibley advances. A man comes out of the convenience store and steps between them. Then, Sibley lunges around the man at the teen, who leaps backward. Both figures move out of view of the camera.

It isn’t clear from the video when Sibley is stabbed or who wields the knife. A moment later he walks back into view looking stunned and checking his side.

Sibley was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.

A witness, Summy Ullah, told the Daily News the young men had been harassing Sibley’s group because their behavior offended them.

“They were saying, ‘Oh, we’re Muslim, so don’t do this in front of me,’” said Ullah, 32.

Ullah added, “Nothing else was going on. They were only dancing.” He said someone asked, “Why are you dancing in your underwear?”

In his video, posted hours after Sibley’s death, Pena choked back tears while recalling the stabbing of the man he called “the salt to my pepper, the peanut butter to my jelly.”

“They murdered him because he was gay,” he said.

A “Justice for O’Shae Sibley” memorial is planned Friday at the Mobil station, and a vigil is planned on Saturday at Manhattan’s LGBTQ Community Center. A celebration of life ceremony will take place Tuesday in Philadelphia.

Beyoncé's website now flashes the message “Rest in power O’Shae Sibley.”

Definitely sounds like a case of fucked around and found out to me.

I believe the technical term for what happened here is Death By Nigga Moment. emot-allears.gif

MIDWOOD, Brooklyn (WABC) -- A teen wanted in Saturday night's fatal stabbing of O'Shae Sibley at a gas station in Brooklyn has been charged by police.

The teen, who is not being identified because of his age was charged with murder, hate crime murder, and criminal possession of a weapon.

The suspect reportedly turned himself in to the 61 Precinct in Sheepshead Bay on Friday afternoon.

Tributes have been pouring in for Sibley, an openly gay professional dancer whose death is now being investigated as a possible hate crime.

Spike Lee posted a tribute on Instagram for Sibley to "Rest in Power," which is the same message posted on Beyoncé's website after it was revealed Sibley and his friends were listening to her music and dancing while they were pumping gas over the weekend.

"Got out the car, dancing a bit, once again, they both Vogue and were probably Voguing and just probably presenting very feminine," said Sibley's friend of 13 years, Kemar Jewel.

Surveillance video shows Sibley was confronted by a group apparently yelling homophobic slurs.

After first de-escalating the situation, words were exchanged once again and officials say the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed Sibley.

On Wednesday there was a growing tribute at Club Cumming in the East Village, which is a gay bar named for actor Alan Cuming.

The talented dancer is being remembered by his friends.

"O'Shae was the type of person you could never be sad around," Jewel said. "O'Shae is funny. He's goofy. He goes out of the way to make you smile, to go above and beyond just to make people happy."

How is the muslim kid getting charged with a hate crime when the fag literally tried to start a fight with him and pursued him even after the kid retreated multiple times? And it was the fag who tried to physically assault the teen and would have succeeded had he not been stopped by another adult?

If the fag had beaten up the kid, would it have been an islamophobic hate crime?

If this was a random event then how did the attacker know he was gay? Am I missing something here or is this just another case of certain lives being seen as more important than others once again? This sounds more like a fight that went deadly.. Something doesn't add up here.

If you and your drunk friends are naked except for red budgie smugglers, devoid of body hair and vogue dancing at some random petrol station in the middle of the night... I'm going to assume that you're gayer than an all male bonobo troop that's been fed a straight diet of viagra for the past month.

I know straight effeminate males are becoming more of a thing now days, but I'm still going assume you're really, really gay.

because of the "stick in my ass" walk and neon pink shorts, probably

it seems like gay niggas were being gay, muslim calls them fags, gay niggas go to muslims presumably to escalate the situation, store owner tries to break it up but in my opinion, it seems like the smallest gay one really wanted it to go further.

maybe it's my dumb little thinking but if you're gay and you know you're a target, why would you dance at a gas station at late at night? lol
