Republicans are essentially frozen in time back to 1994 when the Contract With America led them to flipping congress for the first time in 40 years. Ever since then they keep applying the same playbook over and over again, to diminishing returns. Except for Trump, every one of the candidates for 2024 is trying to be Jack Kemp or Newt Gingrich.

A lot of older Dems are getting into the "we need a sensible Republican" phase that is making them like old neos like Mitt Romney and probably reevaluating Bush. I doubt Mike is gunning for a presidency and is likely just looking to be in the in crowd of Neo-libs/cons, maybe get a board position under Biden and the underlings.
American politics are basically a three-way now where we have Trump, Progressives and Neos. Neos no longer really focus on party as much as suppressing the other two, primarily anything related to Donald.

Honestly glad the ohio thing got voted down. The reason California has the fucked up electoral system is because of Republicans thinking they'd always be in power. The republicans will lose power and then the uniparty would have even more tools to deny citizens.

California has a messed up electoral system because activist judges overruled every initiative that would have saved the state. Californians never voted to destroy their state; they were ignored and later replaced.

It's a cargo cult imitation. Gingrich identified things people were unhappy about, built an action-focused message around those things, and ran on that instead of the vague platitudes that lost Bush the White House in '92. It's not really that different than what Trump did in '16...and like Trump, Gingrich really pissed off the establishment by winning using a strategy they said wouldn't work (actually appealing to their voters).
All the modern Republicans remember about the Contract With America is something about limited government and tax cuts. The fact that it was based on doing something about the damage Democrats had done to the country escapes them.

Most likely his role is just to move Republicans away from Donald by spouting off platitudes about how America so crazy now, don't you wanna go back to 08 when CNN didn't run bad things on the news 24/7. Vote for the lukewarm Bush-publican so we can go back to sensible leadership and put the "adults" back in charge. We all know the drill.
At this point, most of the old Bush-era and Clinton-era politicians are pretty bubby-buddy and are just trying to maintain the grift till they die. It doesn't matter if it is Obungo Jr or Reagan Jr that becomes president as they won't rustle the feathers of the war criminals or persecute on anything. Dem or Republican, it don't matter, as long as it isn't anything Trump or Bernie encouraged, the old people can steer the ship and continue doing a lot of illegal dealings without threat.

A lot of border towns are owned by the cartels already. There will never be an “Owned by the Sinaloa Cartel” sign but if you fuck around and find out long enough, you will definitely see who runs these towns.
