A new report from the Household Pulse Survey found that nearly 10 percent of adult residents of the greater Seattle area have “felt pressure” to leave the embattled city in the last six months as it grapples with soaring cost of living and skyrocketing crime rates.

Nearly half of the more than 600,000 respondents cited “rent increase” as their number one reason for potentially leaving Seattle, followed immediately by over a quarter of a million people who mentioned “unsafe neighborhoods.”

The figure roughly translates to nearly 200,000 residents, making Seattle a national leader in resident dissatisfaction, ahead of Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and New York City. A prior survey conducted by the same research firm a week earlier found an identical result: Seattle bested 15 other metropolitan areas across the country where people felt pressured to leave for their own safety.

“On a personal note, my own sense of safety in my neighborhood has been shaken in recent months,” Gene Balk, a Seattle Times journalist who first reported on the findings, wrote in early August. “I have lived for many years in Belltown near Pike Place Market, and I’ve never felt unsafe here. But I have felt less safe since the horrific killing of Eina Kwon, who owned a restaurant a couple of blocks from where I live.”
In June, Kwon, who was eight months pregnant, was shot alongside her husband while stopped in their car at a Belltown intersection.
“More recently, five people were shot in a grocery store parking lot in Rainier Beach in South Seattle, and a man was fatally shot near Westfield Southcenter Mall in Tukwila. It’s easy to see how violent crimes in such public spaces can contribute to the perception of one’s neighborhood not being a safe place.”

While Balk clarified that “the Seattle area’s violent-crime rate isn’t particularly high for a large urban area,” the city has seen a 24 percent jump in homicides last year alongside a 30 percent spike in vehicle thefts. During the summer riots of 2020, stretches of downtown Seattle were overtaken by Black Lives Matter (BLM) activists. The area was deemed off-limits to cops and named the Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone, otherwise known as CHAZ.

In 2022, amid calls to “Defund the Police,” the size of the local police department roster hit a decades-low as anti-law enforcement rhetoric pushed many into early retirement.

Americans love of crime, drugs, homosexuality and trannies will never stop being weird for us Ugandans.

Unironically, this is Kurt Cobains fault. If grunge hadn't made Seattle the "place to be" they would never have ruined what was apparently a beautiful city.

How do you turn this around? Genuinely, it has to be possible.
It’s not just the mismanagement it’s a good half the populace actively voting for stuff that destroys their living environment .

The story of Gomorrah is all about leaving very few survivors leaving because most people in there would spread their poison to good places if they were allowed to leave.

They are human political locusts, keep them there

My dear otter, the problems run very deep and this is all symptoms of a greater disease plaguing western society. These democratic cities becoming shitholes is merely the result of people having no idea what the power of their vote is and, even if they do, can the system even be trusted with said votes ? Like I said, this is all surface level when the roots are way deeper within our society.

To fix this, we gotta culturally change back into a society of standards and fucking limits. Enough is fucking enough, no ifs or buts.

America needs to go back into being a strict but fair society.

The proper solution is they have to pay a 100% wealth tax and are not allowed for vote for ten years after they move. That way they can’t bring those policies with them when they move. Nor can they fuck up the cost of living for the existing residents.
I say we just wall them in, or let them move in if they forsake voting rights and are willing to get "FAGGOT" tattooed on their foreheads and be legally assaulted at any point.

How do you 'turn around' a house infested with vermin? Same methods apply.

It's a huge shame. I used to love visiting Seattle when I lived in Washington. It was a little faggy, sure, but there was always something weird or fun going on. Then progressively it just got worse and worse until it wasn't even worth going to any more. I got sick of the tents lining the streets downtown, being accosted by methed up junkies, always having to look down to avoid the used needles that are EVERYWHERE, and the niggers hooting and hollering and starting fights in public.

The homeless over in Seattle are quite aggressive too. At least, when I visited there 10 years ago. I can't imagine what the homeless situation is like there now.

Are there really that many of them though? I thought Seattle and Portland were full of white dope fiend homeless, not negronical ones....
Can confirm. Streets are full of white tweekers and smack addicts. There is ten times as much graffiti as there was several years ago. The cops are utterly useless and have been instructed by the commie shit-for-brains City Council to do absolutely nothing about crime.

Speaking of which, the Seattle City Council's Google reviews are less-than-flattering.

Anyone who continues to vote for these people have blood on their hands. You had an opportunity to actually help addicts and the mental ill. Instead you once again chose death.

Has anyone in city hall actually been to seattle? I can only imagine they go there, see the tents, homelessness, trash, graffiti, and chaos and think to themselves “im doing a good job”.

Come visit Seattle where our mayor and city council have endorsed lawlessness! If you love to shoot up or smoke meth or heroin in public, defecate in public, throw trash anywhere you want, love to break into houses and cars to steal things without being punished, disregard basic human decency, rape women in public restrooms, strangle and beat tourists, and want to contract hepatitis, then our city is perfect for you! Oh and the police won’t arrest you for committing crimes—right in front of them! We’re also a sanctuary city so if you’re a drug dealer that happens to be an illegal immigrant, council member Lorena Gonzalez created a legal fund to help you fight for your right to stay in America—doesn’t matter if you’re a convicted felon including rapists! You might call it The Emerald City but the junkies call it “Brown Town” or “Junkie Town.” The junkies love it so much here because city council members like Sally “Dimebag” Bagshaw think taxpayers should create a fund to GIVE heroin to addicts! No wonder the addicts are flocking here from all over the country. I’d be on the first train to Seattle if I was a junkie! And our city council will never admit that we have a DRUG PROBLEM; keep calling it a homeless problem because it has nothing to do with drugs, right? Our city council loves to focus on problems not affecting Seattle. We have the third worst homeless problem in the US and the city council members want to focus on the Israel-Palastine conflict. They’ll pass a law stating they won’t do their banking with Wells Fargo ever again and then go crawling back to Wells Fargo to beg for them to be their bank less than a year later. They push for levies that cost 12 times the original cost and say: sorry no money for that! Yet keep collecting the money from taxpayers. They blame all the businesses for the economic and societal ills of Seattle but won’t do anything to try and fix the problems even though we have a 5 billion dollar plus city budget. Poor Boston only runs on 3 billion, has 50% more police, and manages to get things done with their measly budget—what’s wrong with them?!? Our city council will keep asking for more and more taxpayer money to fix problems that keep getting worse and guess what—they won’t solve anything! Council member Kshama Sawant will fly all over the US and Europe to advocate for socialism, while ignoring the problems plaguing Seattle and publicly declaring: “Jeff Bezos is Seattle’s number one enemy.” She will also waste her time going on the campaign trail for Jill Stein, publicly screaming not to vote for Hilary Clinton, and then throw a tantrum when Trump wins the election. She claims that repealing the head tax was against what the citizens of Seattle wanted. The citizens of Seattle weren’t allowed to vote for the head tax because the city council never offered a vote on it!! They voted for it and then repealed it a month later—comedic geniuses!! They created it without any input from the voters because they know what’s best, right?? Sawant, the socialist, also refuses to disclose her financial information as an elected official. Oh the irony...
Then there’s Mike O’Brien...he was one of the members that pushed for the $15 an hour minimum wage. Ironically his wife started a business and said in an interview that “I can’t afford to pay any employees so I have friends that volunteer their time helping me with my business.” Wow the guy that’s screamed people need a fair wage has a business that won’t pay minimum wage because it’s too expensive. Huh?!? Google Mike O’Brien, Lisa Herbold, Theresa Mosqueda, Rob Johnson, Bruce Harrell, and Debora Juarez for more laughs. Our new mayor was the best selection out of a race of turds too. She was the best turd out of 20 plus turds that ran. I don’t blame anyone who is sane and has the iniative to get things done to run for mayor here. You’d have the headache of battling the inept city council. It’s a lose-lose situation for the citizens.
Vote them all out 2019!! If we don’t we’re f*****!!!

Charming.

There's nothing quite like the experience of being chased around a 7-Eleven by a mumbling, grunting, angry panhandler high on drugs.

Not easily. We have similar situations with our own cities that turn into Labour/Tory strongholds where the rot becomes ingrained because they are either all in on it, true believers in the righteousness of their action or just trying to keep going.
A single change in party doesn't help because everyone they do not replace with their own people is an impediment and those outside of the political apparatus are used to the prior one and reluctant to change. In the worst case scenario you have what we're currently seeing with the civil servants, where they're actively working against the government regarding things like immigration.

Honestly it needs to start with firings where people are also stripped of things like pensions as well as potentially face financial punishment or even criminal charges. Make it clear that if you only stand by the goals of one party you need to quit when they're out, take what you likely undeservedly earned under them and not sit around to sabotage the new lot. Acts of deliberate sabotage as you go out the door see criminal charges and exclusion from all government/civil positions for 10 years+ (no DWP, no NHS, no HMRC etc.)

Americans could likely do similar, barring people from the field where they have experience along with giving them a criminal record should rule out a lot of jobs for them. I'd go a step further and make it so anyone who cops charges because of this sort of thing have their future employment monitored and ensure that if they go into a field they had authority over as far too many do they pay increased taxes as long as they are in that area.
