Starfield - Bethesda's new space IP: will probably be full of fun and easily trackable bugs

How do you think Starfield will turn out?

Wanna take bets for a day 1 patch?
We talking early access day 1 or release date day 1?

(also what counts as a day 1 patch anymore? I don't even think Starfield is on the disk at this point and the disk just has access to the digital download)

This is pretty much what I was talking about: even Fallout 76, which was made by their B-team in Austin and rushed out, released playable if buggy and a bit crap. And the major issues with 76 came from it being an online game.
Bethesda has become the new Ubisoft for hardcore gamers, I think.

Cyberpunk’s biggest problems were the bugs and glitches. With those gone it was a decent game Cyberpunk Far Cry game that has risen to being a pretty damn cool game.
With Phantom Liberty and 2.0 coming out in September, it’s only going to get better. So idk what you’re talking about here.
I have zero faith in Phantom Liberty solely because I've given up on Cyberpunk 2077.

You’ve given up on LIFE so that’s not surprising.
Someone really pissed on your Cheerios this morning. :story:

My point is this, if something does not interest me, I move on. It's simple. You're here just projecting me because of a thing you like and other people such as myself don't.

I want to believe Starfield will be great but I gotta remind myself this is reality and Bethesda hasnt technically produced a good game since Skyrim but some real cynical people will say their last good game was Morrowind.

Doesnt help that the trailers make it seem like its a space game with Fallout 4 styled mechanics, hopefully at least they are "perfected" versions of said mechanics.

Also dislike how Starfield is whats keeping them from working on the next TES and Fallout. That teaser that made about TES 6 implied the game was at least halfway done but I think Todd said that game is still in PRE-production, implying all their "time" went into Starfield.

I think the issue is that, well, Bethesda takes too long to deliver too little these days and people have grown a tad cynical over the years about them (and delusional in the case of people thinking Microsoft buying them would mean that they would pick up the pace). Hopefully Starfield is at least a competent experience with a good modding scene (lord knows modders that want to have a space setting are tired of having to work with games not meant for space settings)

I think TES6 is further along than most think. A year ago or whenever that Lex Friedman interview was, Todd said they already had the intro locked down, the main gameplay mechanics set. and had a good start on the music. Granted, that's like 1% of the end game, but it was a while ago.

Oh god

Emil just admitted that the only way to join the Crimson Fleet is by going undercover for United Colonies. You can choose to "betray" the UC, but he also says that the inspiration for the story was Donnie Brasco ugh
Emil try not to be a retard challenge (impossible!)

People have their hopes up way too high with the return of skill checks and hope for mods. This game will maybe be a little closer to F3 in RPG quality but I guarantee you will still be forced down many different paths and have little choice in the matter.

Modding will be DOA outside of the limited modding you're allowed to do on console or Bethesda net. Todd and company have been trying to lock down and kill the modding scene ever since paid mods was a thing, anyone expecting significant additions here will be massively disappointed mark my words.

Counterpoint: Starfield is the only thing keeping the current iteration of Bethesda from fucking up TES6. I consider this to be a blessing.

This is a mark against the game, honestly.

Bethesda are shit at making RPG's which is why every single game that has gotten simpler has become more enjoyable to play.

Luckily as a PC player I can just console command the horribly implemented skills away.
NoClip will be far more important believe me.....

TES is my preferred franchise but to be honest it doesn't really bother me that they made Starfield first, knowing me I'll probably enjoy it anyway.

A part of me would be relieved if TES 6 never came out. Then at least we don't have another game to mark down all the mistakes and bad ways they made it and how it ruined x y and z.
I have never had to use NoClip in the 20 or so years I've played Bethesda games. Am I just lucky?
Only when I get stuck between two or three rocks on a cliff and would have to reload otherwise.

Tell me lies sweet little lies.

When are people going to get tired of fixing Bethesda's shit? lol

It's a game based in space so I hope it's good. But it's Bethesda. Everyone wants a good space RPG. But so far all we have is KOTOR and Mass Effect. The grind in Elite Dangerous killed it for me.

Well, given how its an open world we are talking about, their development tend to be a bit of its own style since they have side quests and main quests to deal with. That also includes unmarked quests. There is also the consideration for the vast lore of TES and to at least keep things...mostly consistent (this IS Bethesda after, the capital of the Tamriel empire went from a jungle to an european forest).

I can understand a game this big and complex does take time...but not almost a decade, especially since you are doing a more fantasy setting with almost no roots in real world locations like Fallout and even TES in some aspects so you would think a space game would actually be easier to make because you dont have to do all that pesky research so much.

I wonder if you can noclip through space...

The fact you didnt even mention The Outer Worlds shows how fast people kind of moved on from it lol
