That wasn't the plot, especially not the "literal plot". It was a thematic element, "life finds a way", "they don't have things under control" and all that, but it didn't have any bearing on the plot. Remove the uncontrolled breeding and the film would've gone the exact same way. How does a critic not know what a plot is.
Granted, it had a little more of an impact in the novel, but let's not pretend he's talking about that.
