Like the responsible adult I am, I keep tabs on my spending. I don't have any extravagant bills nor people who rely on me financially, so let's just say I live pretty comfortably and have a good amount to put away in savings.
Even then, at one point I felt like I spent way too much on frivolous purchases, and noticed that I just tended to buy on the immediate good-feel - so I made a point of making a little Excel sheet to categorize my spendings. Not only that, I had started to group my not-necessary purchases to "totally worth it" and "fuck this, why did I even buy it?" - because I think it's fair that I can spend my money on not
just the bills. Over time, not only did I manage to reduce my not-necessary impulse purchases, but each "fun" spending was mulled over a little more, and it has brought me
immense satisfaction as to what I buy outside of bills. As it turns out, my life was not even the littlest bit worse without these unnecessary purchases -
plus I had more to put towards savings, so it's a win all around!
Now - were I Kevin Gives and catalogued my purchases, I don't even know if I can even face the mere guilt of how long that Excel column would be. And that's saying a lot because I'm akin to a white girl who needs her daily five-bucks coffee kind of spender.
