And keep in mind that the main reason Newsom won that recall vote with as large a margin as he did is that the California Democrats successfully cleared the field of any viable Democrat challengers, turning it into a straight D vs. R vote with Newsom as the only competitive D on the ballot. If they had kept it open, there's a chance he could have lost to another Democrat.

I've brought this up repeatedly in this thread - and others now, but that is something that the "the people of the blue state shitholes deserve their fate" don't fucking understand. The reason that these situations metastasize the way they have is by design, and in most, if not all of the cases, the voters had no real options. Here's a few examples, other than the one that good Spasticus showed above:

1. California - California's "Jungle" Runoff system essentially is a de facto way to prevent opposition candidates from even getting on the ballot. On the very rare occasion that it looks like one will, mostly through brand recognition (as was the case for Schwarzenegger), they will be so thoroughly captured that the damage they're able to undo is minimal. When the citizens of the state have the power to directly vote on issues, and vote in a way other than how the establishment wants (as they did with Prop Eight), the establishment instead went nuclear to overturn it in federal court. The deck is utterly stacked to prevent anyone from unfucking the situation, and the majority of the state has no meaningful say on any issue due to the demographic consolidation within SF and LA, which are blue state headquarter districts where the Dems control everything, literally have for decades, and will use any means to hold onto power even though they're hated by pretty much everyone. Fittingly, California wants to tax people who flee the state's mismanagement, because if enough businesses and citizens fuck off, California's black hole of a budget collapses into crisis status. 2. The UK - Hey, remember when they voted for Brexit, and the government of the UK did everything possible to undermine said exit, despite the referendum getting voted for by the people? Do you remember how often they specifically voted on a ticket intended to block the flood of illegal immigration, only to instead get politicians who shit their pants and did nothing over it? So many of the UK's biggest problems - the endless influx of migrants, the ongoing financial crisis with the NHS, the soaring crime rate, the massive restructuring of its police force to fuck with its own citizens over actually stopping crimes - the voters had absolute no fucking say in. Absolutely no one fucking likes the PM, but through rule exploitation, the party that's in office gets to pick his replacement if they're removed due to a scandal - something that the party that installed the shitty PM has been abusing for over a fucking decade. None of this shit was voted on and the huge number of different parties in the UK essentially makes outsiders fixing shit all but impossible.

3. NYC - No one in NYC fucking voted for the high-crime shithole NYC has become. Adams fucking ran on lowering the crime rate, and his background suggested he might be good at that, only for him to turn into DeBlasio II, Electric Boogaloo approximately 2 weeks in. Nobody thought that Hochul could in any way be worse than Cuomo; she of course was. After years of incompetence from Hochul, when a fucking outsider challenger got within striking distance of unseating her, running specifically on firing NYC's DAs, they "fortified" the election until they stalled him out. They have attempted to aggressively gerrymander their opposition effectively out of existence, but they've been blocked solely because there's certain lines that not even NY's courts are willing to cross (and that's a fucking rare thing). Politicians like AOC only exist because they've made primarying them without establishment backup essentially impossible in NY, and when Republican challengers look like they might be a threat, the DNC spares no expense to crush them, lest they lose a headquarter district. The rest of the state fucking hates NYC, but NYC has enough political pull and population to run roughshod over the neighboring counties and force terrible fucking policy on its neighbors - neighbors who never got the fucking choice to vote for any of that shit. If there's a silver lining, it's that NYC is utterly fucked economically - the terrible policies they pushed led to a massive pull-out of businesses and citizens alike, and they have absolutely no way to make up the budget shortfalls other than taxing further a citizenry that is already taxed to ludicrous degrees, ergo leading to further pull-outs. The fact that NYC is trying to chase and shake down former residents is further discouraging people from settling in NYC.

The Dems, and their counterparts across the pond, are really not fond of letting the voters have their way, despite constantly screeching about MUH DEMOCRACY, and the only thing they hate more than their voters are their voters fucking off and taking their potential tax revenue with them.

They know they can just lie about it, and the worse that will happen is Uniparty faggots like McConnell and McCarthy going "imagine if the situation was reversed" and never do shit because they don't care. They operate on MovieBob morality, they don't care about justice and a sense of law or fairness. It is all about power and sides. When they see a person being brutally beaten they don't think "This is wrong! What is going on here? Who started this? What is the fight about?" all they think is "Is the one getting hurt a ally? Does the one beating him share my objective?" and that is it.

It's why Trump made them so angry. Because Trump didn't just go "oh imagine if it was the other way!" and wag his finger. Instead he said "no, fuck you, you don't even believe yourself. You are lying and I am not gonna dignify you with a response. Kiss my ass and fuck off." and that terrifies them because that is dangerously close to losing their power. They can win easy as long as people keep playing by their rules, but if you start leaving the marked terrain and actually trying to make new strategies it fucks them over. So they need to make sure to stack as many advantages as they can.

And if they do that they might lose control of the situation. And further, it would mean admitting a moral failure that they are not the Superior Future and Ordained by God Progress to win.
