Goodbye Volcano High - "The Future of Gaming", The Parody Game of the Beloved Snoot Game Franchise

"Don't cry that the release delays are over, smile because this thread happened."
-Joseph Goebbels, probably

Hit me with those YIIK style 2+ hour video essays about dino dating game as you find 'em plz
YIIK is interesting to talk about because its bad in all the right ways to be interesting, GVH is just mediocre and not worth talking about until juicy development gossip comes out.

>band is called Worm Drama
>game is notable for its lack of drama

I suppose that's one of the downsides of having nearly the whole cast be "marginalized" - you can't have a villain. So we have...

* Fang - non-binary, Arabic
* Trish - black
* Reed - gay, Asian(?)
* Naser - Arabic
* Rosa - Hispanic, troon
* Sage - pooner
* Naomi - lesbian

So if you were to have a villain without it being "problematic", literally the only person it could be would be Stella.

Snoot Game did do really well in making Naomi and Trish into plausible villains with credible motives.

0/10 Not enough white cishet representation.

It's also likely that more people have played Snoot Game than GVH, which is hilarious. Plus a sizeable proportion of their sales is going to be snootfans playing it out of curiosity.

And I wanni hug that gator will shit on their sales numbers at a fraction of the development cost. I won't do gangbusters but I do expect it to hit a few thousands.

Kotaku made a review. I doesn't load for me for some reason, but I'm certain they shill it a lot.
Having known kids who got the news they weren't going to survive to graduation, GVH does not feel like a "real" example of how teens would face extinction, collectively. Feels more like how 20-somethings would handle news of impending doom.

I think it needed the genderspecial shit just so there'd be something noteworthy going on.
I genuinely think better writers could have made a visual novel about teenage dinos interesting. The problem is all KO_OP has is "it's a quirky, queer game full of queer dinos. Also highschool. Also metaph- I mean meteor".
Genderspecial shit *can* be interesting but you need to be a good writer who writes good characters that just happen to be genderspecial. Fang has nothing going on beneath the surface of her They/Them stickers, she's just a mostly blank canvas where someone took a shit on it. Same with the rest of the characters.
There are zero relationships that get established, the interpersonal drama is incredibly low effort and shallow in an attempt to "connect" with everyone rather than possibly offending all of the troons that didn't get banned from their discord.

Frankly, the more I think about Goodbye Volcano High, the more I appreciate even the shitty visual novels I own because those shitty VNs at least have something resembling substance I can get enjoyment from.
All Goodbye Volcano High has was the discord/game dev drama. The actual product is just worthless.

Well Stella's fat, so that would be problematic too if she was antagonistic.

I guess that's one of the reason why the game is boring. Everyone's just "nice" to each other, which makes no interpersonal conflict. There's the conflict of the "world is going to end" but nobody seems to be affected by it. So even nature itself isn't really an antagonist to our protagonist.

Does anyone actually achieve that story element with Fang? I guess the parents do, but I don't think they're in the story that much to really warrant them as characters. Maybe there is cause I am just basing this off of watching through a playthrough that I fell asleep to, so someone who actually has played/watched the game fully can enlighten me.
