I think the essence of the pushback in this thread is not really about race, but about racial culture. I personally don't buy the "race = subspecies" meme. I see the logic on paper, but IMO the source of consciousness and its interaction with biology is too unclear to say for certain that specific behaviors can be reproducibly traced back to specific physical traits. however, certain physical traits and certain behaviors are undeniably linked, for example, every American is familiar with the particular way a lot of black people act and talk, variously referred to in different eras as "jive" or "ebonics". obviously this isn't the result of any particular element of physiology, like mouth shape or skeletal features etc., but a learned behavior, linked to an identity, which is linked to a physical trait. this is the cultural idea of "blackness" as in, the characteristics a black person is expected to exhibit (annoying libs love to sperg about this shit). this kind of idea is powerful enough that it spreads autonomously and infects nearly every member of the society. this is why black people exhibit a lot of unified cultural traits across significant culture centers with strong local identities. this is also why race has a mixed connotation of both physical and cultural traits. when you say "black", you're referring to both the physical trait - skin color - and the cultural traits.

Most people would be fine with living without racism. The people that don't want that are mostly blacks and most usually blacks in black majority areas. Pick it up with them. If this wasn't the case, going to places like Detroit or Gary or wherever as a white person wouldn't be as dangerous as entering the lion enclosure in the zoo. I agree with you for the most part. But for what it’s worth I lived in Washington Heights in NYC (majority Hispanic neighborhood) and went to grad school in Harlem (majority Black neighborhood), and I wasn’t victimized by a Hispanic or black man, nor was the annoyance-level crime (ie panhandlers, buskers, pickpockets) more pronounced or pernicious than it was in majority white neighborhoods like the Village or SoHo or the FiDi.
