You don't have to like or dislike gonzalo, but him not leaving as I said before just proves how ridiculous western state controlled media is that they think sending an American to testify against another American on saying "illegal things" is somehow going to be a public relations boon.
It's funny though because they kind of have to keep him locked up at this point. If he had been deported straight away, CRP would just be a nobody with a funny story about getting banned from Ukraine. Now he's a legitimate political prisoner and journalist under arrest for what would be 1A protected speech in the US. They don't want him going on a media tour about how he was beaten, abused, and robbed in a Ukrainian prison for doing journalism.
