Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

I was a little surprised there wasn't F-Zero GX HD announced right after FZ99. I was also exp expecting a new DK game because the same rumors that matched FZ99 mentioned it, I think.

There were so many remakes that maybe they didn't want to put F-Zero GX out there yet. I'd bet Metroid Prime 2 will be with it in the next Direct as another batch of remakes.

I'm thinking that MP 2 and 3 will launch next year and MP 4 will be a launch title for the next Switch.

Poor F-Zero. What a monkey's paw of a return.

Review time, strap in. It looks like my predictions were mostly wrong across the board, but it happens:
  • I've completely clocked out on Splatoon; I just don't care anymore.
  • A new Mario vs. Donkey Kong! Wait, it's a remake? Ehh... the original didn't age great in terms of visuals or crunchy GBA voice clips, but I'd argue that a remake isn't worth the trouble, especially since this seems to be by-the-numbers. They could have just put the original on Switch Online.
  • Horizon Chase 2 looks good. I've heard the original was really good but haven't gotten around to playing it.
  • Super Mario RPG remake still looks great, though I'm a bit disappointed by the music. It sounds fine, but kind of underwhelming. Also, as cool as the new abilities look, I hope they don't make the game too easy.
  • Balan Wonderworld: Peach Edition Princess Peach: Showtime looks good, but it's not for me. Also, I can't shake the feeling that this is definitely developed by a third-party.
  • Tomb Raider I-III Remastered? Hey, that looks pretty good. Maybe a bit safe, but I'm sure Tomb Raider fans will appreciate it. I also like it when remakes lets you swap to the original graphics.
  • Detective Pikachu Returns... is a game. It sure does exist, huh.
  • Trombone Champ looks like a good fit for the Switch's motion controls.
  • A new Contra by WayForward? Neat. They also did Contra 4 on DS, though I don't know how well that was received.
  • Luigi's Mansion 2 (not Dark Moon, it's called 2 worldwide now) HD. I didn't care for the original, and this won't change my mind. We did hear a little bit of Luigi's new voice, though. Also, Summer for Luigi's Mansion? That's just weird.
  • F-Zero is back!!!... as a F2P battle royale. Eh, I'll take it. The other 99-series games are great, so I'm sure this will be, too. inb4 they shut down the servers in 6-12 months
  • WarioWare: Move It looks like WarioWare. In other words, an all-around good time and an easy day one for me.
  • The final Mario Kart DLC has a bunch of great new characters, and also Peachette. Wii fans are probably losing their minds over Funky Kong.
  • Thousand Year Door remake, my beloved... I've already given my autistic love letter to this beautiful remake, but I want to point out how funny it is that the Wii U's last first party exclusive was Color Splash, the game that made most people lose all hope in Paper Mario, and the Switch will end with the game that renews that hope. The Switch really is the anti-Wii U, even with all its Wii U ports.
With the TTYD remake, I'm obligated to say that this is the best Direct that Nintendo has ever done. But ignoring that, it's just okay. We already knew about most of these games, and the most interesting announcements are remakes/remasters. The only thing that really stands out is F-Zero, and it's more like a soft return to the franchise. But hey, it's out today! I'm gonna go play it.

I was hoping you would be right about Mother 3 but knew it wouldn't show up. They do seem to be on a bit of a remake kick, including RPGs though, so who knows, maybe a trilogy remaster might hit eventually.

A new Pushmo was definitely wishlist material too, seems like another dropped franchise (Pushmo 99 in 15 years). And I think Nintendo is too lazy for an SNES Remix, I'd be surprised if they even port the NES Remixes over.

Disappointed it's Trace Memory that gets the HD treatment and not Hotel Dusk. The wii game did get a PAL release randomly along with Last Window, but supposedly the developer folded before the US could get it(or more likely NoA was being a bitch, ala xenoblade).

Paper Mario TTYD is good news though, and that unicorn overlord looks like a fine enough Tactical game. Overall not bad.

Except there was already a TRI-III remastered back in 2007. Tomb Raider Anniversary, anyone?

I have the Wii game, and it was one of the reasons I modded my Wii (along with Xenoblade and Disaster Day of Crisis). I enjoyed both games and I wonder if we'll get Hotel Dusk if this does well. It's even getting a physical release in NA, I'm actually pretty shocked.

I'd rathe have Glass Rose because that was EU only on the PS2 and I've never played it, but.....I'll take Trace Memory.

I don't think a remake will ever happen (certainly not for the first two games), but I could see 3 coming to Switch Online, especially since it was on the Wii U VC in Japan.

New Pushmo never ever. I would have been happy to see Pushmo World leave the Wii U though, even for just a straight port.

For what it's worth, the NES Remixes were developed by indieszero, the same devs that made Retro Game Challenge/Game Center CX 1 and 2.
Speaking of which, I'm near the end of RGC2 (I'm on the last challenge) and it's definitely as good as the first.

I was disappointed too, but it's still a good sign for Hotel Dusk, especially if it sells adequately.

I'm probably going to buy it just for that possibility, especially since there's a physical version. There's very few series I'll do that for, it's the main reason why I grabbed the Chrono Cross remaster.

Why not? The first one is in especially dire need of a remake.

Contra 4 was good, so I'll probably play this one.

I think Shantae is cringe but everything else I've played by Wayforward has been good.

F-Zero 99 is disappointing as fuck. Just give me GX.

I wasn't really as hyped on Super Mario RPG remake when they announced it, but I'll probably end up getting it anyways just cause I love SMRPG

Other than that don't give a shit about the rest.

How are they even planning on bringing over Trace Memory to the Switch. The puzzles in that game are made with the DS in mind there's a whole puzzle that needs you to close the DS screen to solve. Do they expect us to snap the switch in half to solve it or something?

Paper Mario TTYD....the one that people stand by the most is getting a remake. Thank the lords above for this, but I shall ask one question: how are they going to deal with Vivian's identity crisis? He's an "otokonoko" (male daughter in Nip language) in a few versions of the game, but plain just a girl in America/Germany, and a tranny in Italy (though the pre-2014 type so no "transgender" bullshit and more "transsexual")
Will they stick by the original Japanese script or will they just give up and go with a doubled-down transgender representation?.....honestly, considering Nintendo, a bit harder to tell. At the very least he'll still look better than most humans even if he's a shadowy wisp....

TTYD's visual identity looks mostly intact, which is the most important thing since it would be the hardest for fans to fix. It's pretty funny how simply removing new Paper Mario's white outline is enough to send a huge chunk of fanboys into a collective sigh of relief. I'm curious to see if they change anything like the progression of some of the chapters like chapter 4, since it's kind of popular in the Mario RPG Brother Wars meta to make fun of TTYD for having a lot of backtracking (which is bullshit.) Or like, a Paper Luigi side thing.

I foresee some pretty heavy localization, though. TTYD has some fairly saucy stuff in it for a mario RPG, and I just don't see things like the peach shower scene or the playboy bunny boos making the final cut. Every Mario RPG past Paper Mario 64 seems to already have very heavy localizations from what I've played, ESPECIALLY Super, but it's not really something that gets a lot of discussion. It probably won't get that much discussion this time either because it's much more important that we have 100 more years of FUCKING VIVIAN DISCOURSE.

They can do whatever they want with it, honestly. The original holds up perfectly fine and it isn't hard to download dolphin, an iso, and open the iso in dolphin. Downloading an HD texture pack and dragging and dropping it into the right folder is also an option if you're a real pro gamer giga hacker.

I wasn’t convinced at first but now I definitely believe Metroid Prime 4 is being made for the next console, I think if it was going to be for the switch than this was the last chance that it was going to be shown off and honestly I’m not sure it’s going to be cross gen either especially if it’s being made to show off the power of the new system

Let me rephrase that: I don't think Nintendo will go out of their way to remake those games. There's a really good looking remake in development right now called Mother Encore, and it has a demo. There's also another in-progress remake in the form of an Earthbound rom hack, but the old dev disappeared and the new dev is a tranny, and the composer has also since trooned out *sigh*
