The difference between Benson Dunwoody and Patrick is that, even if you like Mordecai and Rigby, you have to admit Benson's rage was justified 80% of the time. Oh, and he also has a real job.

And Patrick's Benson character sounds like an apathetic "chosen one" shitbag whereas RS Benson actually gives a shit about things and knows how to have fun. A fucking gumball machine is more human than Patrick's character.

Because I watched a lot of old sitcoms growing up, this is what I think of when I see the name Benson.

i'm working on the last chapters right now because 26 was surprisingly short and enjoyable and there's a filler character name that i laughed at.

"Acting-Chief Swenson"

Benson has an evil twin, lmao. patrick couldn't come up with any other name besides Swenson to fill in for the suspended constable chief.

There was some recentish pictures of Kyle on da forums a couple of years back. He wears a neckbeardy flatcap and isn't exactly a turbo chad, but he looks much more human than Pat which isn't saying much. He's also not FAT AS FUCK. As far as i know, he's happily married and has a job, he also stays out of Pat's life for the most part.

Pat gets really, really assmad if you bring up Kyle being more successful/better than him. He will drop the "enjoy prison, stalker" responses and go off on a long tirade about why Kyle isn't in fact better than him, stupid little baby child.

Is Kyle re-married? I remember it was Kyle’s then-wife Rona who Piggy confessed his murderous thoughts to, and IIRC I read that Rona divorced Kyle a year or two later.

The thing I like best about the second, better Kyle on X is that he always calls Piggy his “little brother” and instead of a general denial, Piggy will say “you are not my little brother”. He’s very butthurt about the idea of being the younger one. I can’t work out why that would be. Got any shrinks here?

He must have remarried i guess, unless he was still with Rona at the time? this was about 2 years or so ago so my memory is a bit hazy lol. Isn't Kyle the younger brother? i'm sure Pat used to always refer to Kyle as his "little brother" in some sort of weird power play.

Thanks for continuing to slog through these chapters. These are the moments that show why Patrick needs an editor and a brain upgrade. Like you said, he doesn’t consider the consequences of his own setting. People have pseudo telepathy and it only gets used now and then as a plot contrivance. It doesn’t explore the fundamental shift in communication and relationships this would generate.

Benson smashes an extremely valuable piece of technology? Sounds like Patrick is just writing what he knows.

Another pain in the ass is people were screened before being let on this ship and all the usual social ills were left behind on Old Earth. These are the great great grandchildren of the original crew and they’ve started going psycho again? Where are the routines? The rituals needed to pass down sacred knowledge like what to do in case of a hull breach? It’s clear Patrick got all excited thinking about a big model spaceship and the people inside are filthy stalker children and how they’d handle a generation ship isn’t of any interest. Maybe he thinks it’s like a big jet with everyone in coach (except for his big, brawny self-insert).

Wait for the Flip, child.

i already forget if i tried to infer something about the Ark itself in the update but the whole part about Chinatown getting suicide bombed and the hull breach being glossed over remains colossally ridiculous. what i might have inferred is that Patrick has referred to Avalon and Shangri-la, the residential sectors, as "modules", which would imply that if they are destroyed, the rest of the ship wouldn't necessarily follow suit. i loathe to give him anything, but i'm gonna guess that he expected us all to read his mind on that part, because no damage report was given, and Benson always has an encyclopedic dump for us when we need to take a part of the world at face value.

Look what I found! This actually answers some questions and adds more. Haha good old Patrick, even his ship designs are as brilliant as the author.

This doesn’t explain why there are different times on the ship. Just have one ship time for your clocks, nice and easy. Is the command module now cut off from the rest of the ship because of the massive hull breach? Who knows? We’ve got a Zero star to prosecute!

i still have a vague procedural memory of all i've read in this book so far and i'm gonna say it now: this depiction of the Ark raises a hundred more questions and patrick is most certainly not prepared to answer a fucking one of them.

Wow props to Pat he's actially a pretty good drawer, I mean he shouldnt apply to any Vienna art schools anytime soon but he can draw reasonably well.
