Apparently the surgery was for a supposed deviated septum & he had been convinced to get some cosmetic changes as well, but honestly he doesn't appear to have a deviated septum to me. For some people a deviated septum can even be invisible from the outside, so he very well may have one. However a lot of people get cosmetic nose jobs billed as septoplasty when there is not a deviated septum present in order for insurance to properly cover the procedure, but I am unsure if that is the case in the UK with the NHS.

A deviated septum is a real thing but most people just claim they have that as an excuse to get a nose job because lots of people don't want to admit they're getting a nose job for aesthetic purposes. It's the same reason women claim they're getting hernia repair instead of a tummy tuck; it just sounds "nicer" to claim you're getting a medically necessary surgery.

Finn canceling his surgery is a smart move, I don't think he wanted it and that's the real reason he was breaking down on camera.
