Hope you bought all the body pillows and Nintendo Switches you wanted before this Alex. If I have to bear witness to hundreds of developers being slowly undone by their tools' makers, I'm at least happy you're gonna know what that sharp stinging feels like.

I can't believe I missed this, but he put out a longer statement on his blogpost.
Next build? Coming soon! Less than 24 hours. In the meantime, though…

There is a certain topic that I’ve been asked about dozens of times over the past few days, so I figure that I should probably write out all of my thoughts in one place, so that I can simply link people to this post whenever they ask me about the subject.

Click “Continue Reading” for a very, very long blog post.

You can skip the first three sections if you already know the basics about the situation.

Summary

Yandere Simulator runs on the Unity game engine. Recently, Unity Technologies – the company that develops Unity – announced a change to their business model: starting on January 1st, they will instate a “runtime fee” – in short, Unity is going to start charging developers $0.20 every time a customer installs the developer’s game (if the developer sells enough copies of their game).

Immediately after this announcement was made, everyone who heard it immediately identified countless problems with the concept:

  • How does Unity know when a game has been installed on a machine? From Jan 1st onward, will each Unity game contain “spyware” that is “phoning home” to Unity’s servers? Does this spyware already exist? If so, what other types of data has it been collecting?
  • What if a user uninstalls and re-installs a game dozens of times? Is each re-installation a $0.20 charge? Can someone bankrupt a developer by perpetually running a script that re-installs a game repeatedly?
  • What if a developer’s game is included in a charity bundle, where all of the profits are meant to go to charity? Will the developer lose money on each install, since they’re not keeping any of the profit from the charity sale?
These are only a few of the extremely obvious flaws that were immediately identified within seconds of the announcement going live; if I were to list out all of the other completely sensible and valid objections that people have made about this new business model, this blog post would double in size.

The announcement of this deeply flawed business model led to immediate and extremely widespread outrage from the entire game industry; everyone from players to developers to journalists instantly recognized the obvious and severe problems with this new pricing plan – and they voiced their disapproval loudly. With just one announcement, Unity immediately became the punching bag of the entire game industry.

Additional Controversy

The CEO of Unity sold 2,000 shares of the company’s stock before this controversial announcement was dropped. It’s almost as though he fully anticipated the negative reaction to the announcement, and wanted to dump his own company’s stock before it became worthless. Numerous people have expressed the opinion that this appears to be an instance of “insider trading.”

Unity’s previous Terms of Service stated that developers would only have to obey the ToS that they agreed to when their game was released, and that they wouldn’t be obligated to obey a newer ToS introduced after their game had already been shipped. Earlier this year, Unity removed that clause from their ToS, essentially preventing any Unity developer from being exempt to the latest ToS.

Developer Reactions

Over the past 2 days, a tremendous number of game developers have made public statements condemning Unity’s decision. Some developers merely implored Unity to reconsider, while other developers went as far as to cancel their game projects and announce that they will never utilize the Unity game engine again, because their ability to trust the company to make sound business decisions has been completely vaporized.

Some statements were quite verbose:
(images)

While others were much more succinct:

I was planning to include a list of my favorites here, but…well, there are just too many:
(images)

The reason why I haven’t made any kind of official public announcement about the situation is because I feel that there’s nothing I could possibly say that dozens of other developers haven’t already said. Everyone unanimously feels the same way about Unity’s plan: it’s stupid. It’s impossible to enforce, it’s susceptible to abuse, and it’s greedy as hell. If I were to tweet out my thoughts, I would just be yet another voice echoing the exact same sentiment as anyone else. There is no need for me to jump on the bandwagon or join the dog pile.

…with that said…

…gosh, it looks so fun to do the graphic design work for a public statement. I want to give it a try!!
(images)
Hehe! That was fun! Okay, break time’s over, back to work…

Will this affect the development of Yandere Simulator?

After the industry-wide backlash that Unity is facing for this decision, I strongly believe that Unity is going to reverse their decision. Within the next few days, they’re going to make a follow-up announcement: “Sorry guys, we didn’t think that one through. We’re canceling our plans to instate runtime fees. We’ll decide on a different business model that more feasible and less susceptible to abuse, and gather feedback from developers before announcing it.”

And that will be the end of it.

“Yeah, but what if they don’t do that, though?”

They’re definitely going to do that. Every gamer, developer, and news outlet is raking Unity over the coals right now. They are absolutely going to backpedal and reverse their decision.

“Yeah, but what if they don’t do that, though?”

…you serious? People who have worked for Unity for 7 years have already resigned because of this blunder. Unity is hemorrhaging employees and rapidly losing the trust of the entire gaming industry. There is no way they’re not going to walk this one back. They are going to cancel their plans, make a public apology, and they are going to do it soon.

“Yeah, but what if they don’t do that, though?”

If Unity actually goes through with this plan…dude, they’re going to get sued. You can’t just alter your terms of service to say, “Now you owe us millions of dollars!” long after someone has agreed to a previous version of the terms of service. That’s ridiculously illegal.

Do you know who has used Unity to develop games? Nintendo and Disney. Yeah. Two of the richest and most litigious entities in existence. Nintendo and Disney have way more than enough money to hire the most elite lawyers in the world to skullfuck Unity to death sue Unity into oblivion if they try this shit.

“Yeah, but what if Unity gets away with it, though?”

…ugh.

We are going deep into hypothetical territory here, since I strong doubt it will ever come to this, but, sure, okay, let’s try out this thought experiment.

In order to owe Unity any money, I have to meet two criteria: I have to make $200,000 in revenue over a period of 12 months, and my game has to be installed over 200,000 times over a period of 12 months.

So, how does Unity define “Revenue?” They were kind enough to spell it out on their website:

A game or app’s “total revenue” includes all revenue generated (without limitation) from retail sales, in-app purchases, subscription fees, web payments, offline payments, ads-based revenue, etc. Total revenue is calculated without deduction, including any relevant digital store fees.
Well, here’s the thing: Yandere Simulator is freeware. Over the course of 9 years, I have made $0 in revenue from the game.

Yandere Simulator is not retailed through any store, it does not contain in-app purchases, it doesn’t provide any type of subscription, it doesn’t contain any ads, etc.

I survive thanks to the generosity of people donating to me through Patreon – and even then, I am making less than minimum wage every month. I don’t come anywhere close to meeting Unity’s criteria. So, no, this doesn’t affect me, and because Yandere Simulator will remain freeware for at least another 6 months, it probably won’t begin to affect me for a long time.

“Wait, what? Yandere Simulator won’t be free forever?”

Yeah! Didn’t you know that? I feel like I’ve already talked about this a million times. Okay, let me spell it out for you…

Yandere Simulator has been free for the past 9 years. However, after Amai is implemented, the game will have so much content that I will no longer feel comfortable giving it away for free. After Amai is complete, I will put the game on Steam and start charging $5 for it. After all 10 rivals are in the game, the price will change to $20. Anyone who bought it when it was $5 won’t have to re-buy it when the price changes later. (This is the current plan, but these exact numbers might change in the future.)

“So, what happens if you put the game on Steam, sell 200,000 copies, and earn $200,000?

Oh, geez. Fine, let’s crunch the numbers.

Let’s imagine that I sell Yandere Simulator on Steam for $5 and sell 200,000 copies, earning $1,000,000 in revenue and passing the $200,000 threshold for Unity’s runtime fee to kick in.

A year later, Unity will send me a bill for 200,000 times $0.20, which is $40,000. Owch, that would kinda sting…but, let’s think about it for a second.

A number like 40,000 sounds huge, but it would only be 4% of the revenue that I made from Yandere Simulator in this hypothetical situation. I can’t speak for other game developers, but, personally, if I made $1,000,000 in annual revenue from a game, I would actually be okay with paying a $40,000 fee to the developers of the game engine that I used.

“But what if someone uninstalls and re-installs the game a million times?”

Oh, for the love of…okay, fine. As long as we’re here, we may as well go ahead and consider the worst-case scenario.

Let’s imagine that a single person writes a script that creates a virtual machine, installs Yandere Simulator, closes the virtual machine, and repeats the sequence in an endless loop. They do this 5,000,000 times.

A year later, Unity will send me a bill for $1,000,000 and say, “Your game was installed 5 million times! Pay up!”

I will simply respond by showing them my Steam analytics page and saying, “Nope. I am not paying that bill. I only sold 200,000 copies, not 5 million. Here is the proof.”

After this, Unity will recognize that 96% of those 5,000,000 installs were fraudulent, and will lower the bill to a much more reasonable number.

“But what if they don’t listen, and they try to bill you for 5,000,000 nonexistent installs?”

Uh, no. They won’t do that.

“But what if they do?”

They won’t.

“But what if they do?”

Dude, seriously, they won’t. They said that they’re not going to charge a fee for fraudulent installs:
(image)
If I get a bill for 5,000,000 installs, I’m just going to dispute the bill and work together with Unity to make sure they bill me the proper amount.

“But what if they don’t listen to you?”

That’s not going to happen. If you’re a waiter in a restaurant, and you’re bringing a bill to a table, and you realize that the bill says $1,000,000, you’re not going to tell the customer to pay that bill; you’re going to go tell your boss that somebody fucked up at the cash register, and the customer’s bill needs to be re-calculated. Seriously, it’s not going to happen.

“Yeah, but what if it DOES happen?”

You’re asking me what’s going to happen if Unity demands that I pay them $1,000,000 when I should only owe them $40,000, and they refuse to acknowledge any of the evidence that disproves their claims?

“Yeah.”

I guess I just wouldn’t pay the bill.

“Wouldn’t they, like, sue you or something?”

Unity has not explained what they plan to do about developers who refuse to pay. That information wasn’t in their announcement. But, seriously, dude, this scenario isn’t going to happen.

“But what if it does?”

Then I’ll grow wings and fly to Unity HQ and use the Geass in my left eye to mind-control the CEO of Unity and make him stop this madness.

“Uh…”

Since you’re asking me about a hypothetical scenario that will never happen, I’m answering with a hypothetical scenario that will never happen. There. I hope we’re done discussing it.

None of this matters, since Unity is absolutely going to backpedal and cancel their runtime fee plans within the next few days. I’m just going to continue working on the game like nothing ever happened.

“You still want to use the Unity engine, even after Unity has proven themselves to make business decisions that are horribly unethical?”

Honestly? No, I don’t. Making a game in Unity feels lame and uncool and cringe right now. But, I’m too invested in this project to stop because of one company’s stupid blunder.

“Why don’t you just port Yandere Simulator to another engine?”

You have absolutely no idea how difficult and time-consuming that would be. It would double the game’s development time. I’ve been developing Yandere Simulator for 9 years. I want to release the final version of the game within the next 2 years. So, no; I will not make a decision that will prolong development for another decade.

“Why has Yandere Simulator been in development for so long?”

Oh, Christ, we’re still on that shit? For the millionth time…

Some games are made available while in an incomplete state, and then regularly updated with new content for a long time. That is the type of game that Yandere Simulator became. It is now the kind of project that periodically receives new features, new activities, new characters, new weapons, quality-of-life improvements, etc. Some games are supported long-term with updates and new content. To be honest, I don’t see anything wrong with that. I feel that a continuously-expanding game is far more meaningful than a game where you just stab 10 girls and then you’re done.

By the way – there is a mode within Yandere Simulator where you can eliminate 10 rivals and see the credits roll. A complete story mode with a proper beginning/middle/end. If that’s your criteria for a “finished” game, then Yandere Simulator is already “finished” in that sense.

Actually, I’ve written 7,000 words about this exact subject: https://yanderedev.wordpress.com/2023/03/31/the-9th-anniversary-of-yandere-simulators-development/

With all of that said, I’m ready to wrap it up and bring the project to a conclusion. Updating a game with new content for 9 years was fun, but I’d like to put a bow on it, call it “finished,” and move on. I’m almost ready to move to the phase of the game where I implement Ayano’s rivals. There are just a few things I have to do first.

“Specifically what remains until you begin working on Ayano’s rivals?”

I wrote an entire blog post about it, dude.
Please just go read it.

Man, how did we get so off-track? Time to wrap things up…

I’ll be releasing a new build soon, sometime within the next 24 hours. I hope that you’ll look forward to it!
Speaking of the new build, it introduces two new murder methods: an iron maiden and a carnivorous plant ala Little Shop of Horrors.
Hello! I’ve prepared a new build for you today! I’m proud of this one, because I was able to take care of a lot of “dangling loose ends” that I really wanted to resolve before continuing forward with development. I’ll elaborate more about it at the bottom of this blog post.

To read a list of everything that was added / changed / fixed / improved in the latest build, please scroll down past this chilling artwork by unknown_ANN0!

Planting Seeds and Harvesting Plants

The Gardening Club now has a new benefit. If you join the club, you can ask Uekiya to give you plant seeds once per day.

You can plant those seeds in two locations. One of them is the greenhouse in the Gardening club…

…and the other location is the Biology Lab.

After 4 days, the seeds will grow into a type of poison plant – lethal, emetic, sedative, or headache, depending on what kind of seeds were planted.

New Weapons in Foreign Studies Room

Six new weapons have been added to the game: a saber, a sword, a battle axe, a spiked mace, a war hammer…and a statue of “The Thinker” that doubles as a clock.

Five of those items are contained inside of glass cases in the Foreign Studies Room. There are two ways to reach the contents of these cases: either by breaking the glass case open…

…or by stealing the “weapon case key” from the Headmaster’s office. (Yes, that key now has more purpose than just unlocking the katana case!)

Iron Maiden Murder Method

The “Iron Maiden” model from the previous build has been replaced with a larger and more intimidating one!

Not only that, but the new model also has some functionality that you might have some fun with: It is now possible to shove a student inside and slam the doors shut, instantly killing them!

(The animation that is used for this murder method is a temporary placeholder. In the future, I’d like to replace the animation with a much better one.)

Kiln Corpse Disposal

Remember how I added a kiln to the art club in a recent update? Well, now it has an actual purpose!

You can now use the kiln to dispose of bodies! Only one body per in-game hour. Like the incinerator, but limited to one corpse.

Plant Corpse Disposal

Up above, you may have noticed that it’s possible to request something called “Plant Growth Stimulant” from Uekiya. What does it do? Well…

There is a carnivorous plant in the Biology Lab. If you feed it the growth stimulant, it will grow in size. After 5 straight days of eating the growth stimulant, it will eventually grow large enough to eat a human whole! You can feed it a corpse – or limbs – to completely dispose of them without leaving any evidence. It’s the first corpse disposal method that requires multiple days of work to unlock. Think of it as something that requires an initial time investment, but might be very useful when doing a 10-week playthrough where you might need a quick way to dispose of a body without leaving the school.

Three New Places To Hide Corpses

It is now possible to use the sarcophagus and treasure chest in the Foreign Studies room – and the freezer box in the Biology Lab – to hide corpses.

Previously, these parts of the school had very few options for places where the player could temporarily hide a corpse while waiting for a more opportune time to dispose of it. I hope that these additions will be helpful to players!

Flag Removal

The “Foreign Studies” room features the flags of various countries. One of the flags in that room is the flag of Ukraine.

However, Yandere Simulator’s “1980s Mode” takes place in 1989, and Ukraine did not become an independent country until 1991. This means that the Ukraine flag cannot exist in 1989! Oops!

So, as of this build, the Ukrainian flag has been removed and replaced with another country’s flag.

Please understand that the removal of the flag is not a political decision; it’s only happening because the game takes place in 1989 and I’m trying to keep that mode historically accurate.

Improvements

  • The 3D models in the stalker’s sister’s room have been replaced with new ones. (In case you’re thinking, “Why update a part of the environment that is mostly out-of-sight, which the player isn’t allowed to approach since it would result in a game over?” the answer is that a fan created the models as part of his “volunteer application,” the models looked pretty nice, and I didn’t want them to go to waste. Who knows, perhaps a much more important environment will feature those models in the future…)
  • When you use the “Tag” feature to mark the location of a student and then activate Yandere Vision, you will see a circle appear around that student. Previously, that circle was a very plain graphic. As of now, the appearance of that circle has been updated to be a little more fancy.
  • In the “Ryoba comforts child Ayano” part of the opening animation, it was extremely apparent how low-poly Ryoba’s lower body was. Her model has been updated with more polygons on her lower body so that she doesn’t look so jagged and triangular.
  • Previously, the “Come Visit The Library!” poster featured in Honami’s task was an A.I.-generated placeholder image. As of now, it has been replaced with a vastly superior human-made image. Yay!
  • Slight adjustments and improvements to the Osana Befriend/Betray cutscene, both the “Befriend” branch and the “Betray” branch. Fixed things that looked janky.
  • It is no longer possible to walk up to a teacher and “Report Blood/Corpse” during Mission Mode, since this would simply result in an instant game over.
  • The “casual wave” animation has been updated to look more smooth and natural. (Shy characters and aloof delinquent characters perform the casual wave.)
  • The “Task Icons” for the 1980s Mode generic tasks have been replaced with new artwork that more closely matches the “anime” art style of the game.
  • There is now a unique animation for wrapping a corpse in a bodybag, instead of just re-using the “dismembering with a circular saw” animation.
  • Adjusted Ayano’s animation during the “staring out of window” part of the opening animation to be more smooth and fluid.
  • Male students now perform a “reacting to nearby suspicious noise” animation when they hear a strange sound nearby.
  • Martial Arts Club members will now refuse to gossip about Raibaru, because of the respect they hold for her.
  • It is now possible to exit the PortraitScene and return to the title screen by pressing the “ESC” key.
  • The “reacting to nearby suspicious noise” animation has been adjusted.
  • Added another YouTuber plushie to the plushie shelf!

Fixes

  • If the player stole a student’s phone, gave it to Info-chan, but did not pick it up afterwards, and then splashed another student with water, causing them to leave their smartphone in the locker room, the original student would find their missing smartphone as if the smartphone in the locker room counted. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player made the Gaming Club shut down and then completed Gema’s Task, the bullies would open the (locked) Gaming Club door and perform a “spying on Gema” animation, even though Gema wasn’t in the room (and was standing behind them). This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player stood in a specific position, it was possible to activate the “sew a scarf” button prompt while not on the correct side of the sewing table, triggering the sewing animation on the incorrect side of the table. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player made progress towards sabotaging their rival, saved their game at school, then loaded their save, their sabotage progress would be reset. This bug should be fixed now; please test it for me and report it if it’s the bug still exists.
  • If the player achieved a “low reputation game over” while Senpai and the rival were still performing their morning interaction event, Senpai’s animation would not be correct during the low-rep-game-over cutscene. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player committed murder in front of a rival waiting to confess to their suitor under the cherry tree, the rival would not exit their “shyly wringing hands” animation, even while fleeing for their life. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player was performing the “removing gloves” animation while being electrocuted, the player would not enter the “electrocution” state properly, and would be able to move around at the game over screen. This bug has been fixed.
  • If a rival witnessed Ryoba commit murder and told Senpai about it, the subtitles would be discolored and the “EXPOSED” game over screen would have an incorrect amount of bloom. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player saved the game and then loaded, the delinquents would teleport to their spawn position instead of re-appearing wherever they were when the game was saved. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player saved the game while a student was sitting in the infirmary with a headache and then loaded the game, that student would forget all about their headache. This bug has been fixed.
  • When the police find a murder weapon, it’s supposed to display onscreen during the Police Investigation sequence. Due to a bug, the weapon wasn’t displaying. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player asked a nurse for medicine while a student was seeking medicine from the nurse, the nurse/student would not be able to complete the actions. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player alarmed a student during a “NO ALERTS” challenge run, Senpai’s voice would come out of the student’s mouth, even if the student was female. This bug has been fixed.
  • In 1980s Mode, the “Memes” topic is re-named to “Jokes.” However, the word “Memes” was still being displayed when learning a student’s opinion on Jokes. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player tranquilized a student really close to the door of the gym storage room, it was possible for the victims’ body to slide out of the room. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player approached the Foreign Studies Room from the north, the room would be labeled as “English Classroom” instead of “Foreign Studies Room.” This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player purchased advice from the barber in 1980s Mode and then reset the week, they would still be in possession of the purchased advice. This bug has been fixed.
  • If the player received a “low reputation game over” in 1980s Mode, Ryoba’s face would be deformed in the low-rep-game-over cutscene. This bug has been fixed.
  • Minor fixes to “Thanks For Playing” scene (Ayano was not using the correct face shape or run animation, and one of Mida’s fingers was broken).
  • If the player gave a headache to two students, they would both try to sit in the same seat in the infirmary. This bug has been fixed.
  • Some debug commands were left in the “Headmaster talks to Mr. Saikou on the phone” cutscene. These debug commands have been removed.
  • Ayano wasn’t wearing the correct stockings in the “staring out of window” part of the intro animation. This bug has been fixed.
  • When Ryoba crouched or crawled, her hair would clip through her body. This bug has been fixed.
  • Fixed a typo in the subtitles for the final line of Moeko’s task.
  • Fixed typo in the description for Info-chan’s Wednesday Bounty.

Why’d you focus on this stuff?

You might be looking at some of the things I worked on this week and thinking to yourself, “Did the game really need 6 new weapons, an iron maiden, or a carnivorous plant? Was any of that stuff necessary? Why’d you choose to focus on that?”

I felt bad that two new rooms had been added to the school that contained tons of props and tons of potential, but completely lacked any sort of functionality. “I’ve added a new room that contains ancient relics that normally wouldn’t have a reason to be found in a school, an iron maiden, and places that would be ideal for hiding corpses!!!!! …oh, I haven’t added any functionality, though.” This sort of thing really bothers me.

As soon as the new rooms got added to the game, “Add functionality to the new rooms” got added to my to-do list, which made me feel really sad and demotivated, because my to-do list got longer instead of shorter. In that type of situation, the most fulfilling, rewarding, and satisfying thing I can possibly do is to immediately take care of the newest item(s) added to the to-do list.

I didn’t think to myself, “This stuff is high priority, so I should focus on it first!” rather, I was thinking, “This is stuff that I have to get out of the way, and I know that it can be added to the game relatively quickly, and it’s what I feel like working on right now, so I’m just going to take care of it now so that I can move on to the rest of my tasks without worrying about the dangling loose ends I haven’t taken care of yet.”

You have to remember that my goal evolved from “let the player kill 10 girls” into “provide a game that is supported for a long time with lots of updates and cool new features.” I think that the experience of killing 10 girls would be boring unless there were a bunch of fun mechanics to eliminate them with. Hence, the decision to add iron maidens, carnivorous plants, etc.

“But, when does it end? When will you be done?”

The Foreign Studies Room and the Biology Lab were the last two remaining empty rooms in the school. “These two rooms got props, so now I’m taking a detour from what I was previously doing to add new functionality to those rooms” can’t happen again for that same reason, since there are no more empty rooms waiting for new props.

Seriously, it’s not like this process will last forever. There’s a finite amount of room in the school, so there’s a finite number of tasks I could possibly work on until I’ve run out of things to do and have to shift attention to the rivals. And we just occupied the last remaining empty space in the school.

Please don’t freak out and say “oMg He’S wAsTiNg TiMe On UnNeCcEsSaRy FeAtUrEs” or other stupid things like that. The crowdfunding campaign shouldn’t launch with empty rooms in the school, so occupying those rooms with props and functionality was a mandatory step that had to be taken before the crowdfunding campaign could begin. By adding functionality to those rooms today, I was simply fulfilling the commitment I made back in 2015 when I originally decided that the school would have a certain number of rooms. There’s nothing wrong with that.

If a lot of new bugs get reported in the latest build, I’ll probably have to spend some time fixing them, and release a bug-fixing build within the next few days. If not, I’ll move directly on to the next item on the pre-crowdfunding checklist, and keep going down the list until it’s complete.

Thank you for following the development of Yandere Simulator!
Back on Discord, Alex and Cameron had a small disagreement that had Alex calling him a whiny asshole.
Screenshot_1.pngScreenshot_2.pngScreenshot_3.png

I look forward to seeing how Alex handles it when Unity sends him a bill he might not even be able to afford. He might be good at avoiding legal trouble, but as we've seen from his Tinybuild emails, he flounders like a fish when he's actually backed into a corner.
I imagine he'll handle it very poorly. As far as I've ever heard, he's never actually incorporated a legal entity for the game - The trademark is even still registered to him as an individual, and hasn't been transferred to any legal entity. That would imply Alex is operating as an individual, and likely has his unity seat license under the same.

This means that if Unity comes to him with a big old bill that he refuses to pay, he can't just throw the paper name corporation under the bus and wash his hands of the whole problem. The bill would be against him as an individual, and liable against his personal assets if he refuses to pay and Unity takes it to legal action. And assuming the court holds up Unity's retroactive fee application (Or he bungles the defense hard enough that it gets a free pass), he's gonna end up owing that bill, the legal fees of both sides, damages, and be court mandated to pay up in a timely manner.

No, they probably wouldn't. You'd think they would, but they are the ones who are contractually positioned to determine the number of installs, and you have a 'claims avenue' to take it through if you disagree. The claims department will require you to provide contradictory proof of installs, as that's the billable metric. I know what a reader might be thinking, thats stupid how do I prove that, and the answer is the same way unity proves it, "With a robust data driven model that estimates install counts" using a runtime that doesn't phone home.

Unity has straight up told you they're making it all up, and its your job to provide factual evidence to the contrary, and they are under no obligation to accept it. If you disagree, you can cease using and distributing the Unity runtime. Even if you assume pure innocence on Unity's part, that bill is going to be due at the end of the month, and I can all but guarantee the claims department doesn't actually have authority to waive billing, only to issue refunds post-fact, and only after exploring all avenues. They will not want to give that money back easily, or expediently.

Alex has always been excellent at making extremely smoothbrained takes, and this certainly didn't fail to disappoint. You'd think someone who'd been in the industry before would know just how uncaring these big corps are about small players. You're an inconvenience to them, not something to be bent over backwards for.

Anyone see the current happenings? Its all over twitter, tiktok and the r/Osana reddit, from the looks of things Yandere Dev got caught grooming another minor in discord vc

I can't archive the tiktok so I'll just archive the video itself here

I want to take it with a grain of salt but that definitely sounds like him.

Cameron was also in the comments seemingly confirming that it did happen but that the minor "told him she was 18"

Just when I was starting to think things were getting boring,

A little surprised that this hasn't been brought up yet but Alex was caught trying to groom another minor. This one was a 16 year old girl who has a recorded audio call of him being inappropriate. Alex has tried going into damage control by joining tiktok to get the videos taken down while Cameron has been getting fans to flag the videos and every time he tries to defend Alex he's making it look even more bad. Alex has threatened legal action.

No idea how to save tiktok videos but the account is socksirl. This has mostly been talked about on r/osana.

wow, 16 whole years old? That's old enough to drive a car. Pretty much a granny by Alex Mahan standards, his tastes are really maturing.

And grooming or not, the entire "Mother nature sexualizes minors, it's not like someone does it to them" is some high quality Yanderedev, so thank you tiktok brained teenage girl for that least.

I downloaded them using yt-dlp.exe.

Alex allegedly threatened the minor into backing down, but no proof of this is being shown, at least not yet. (A1) (A2)

The full video is allegedly dropping tomorrow and is supposed to be 3 hours long. (A)

If that tiktok account really is Cameron, then he deleted those comments pretty quick, but somebody managed to save at least some of them. (A1) (A2) (A3)

They're also claiming that this account is made recently by him...even though his actual account was made three years ago.

Edit: The mods at /r/osana pinned a post about it and linked to Juan But Not Forgotten's video at the end of it (A)

Oh boy just when things were slowing down, Alex goes and delivers again. Not a boring day with Alex and his retardation. Can't wait for the fallout of this

Here we go again...but really, Alex? There's enough drama ongoing with the game engine you're using shooting itself in the foot (it really would've been funny if Unity itself dying would be the straw that finally killed Yandere Simulator) but you have to keep attempting to taste the forbidden fruit and getting called out on it? Then again, if you were capable of learning your thread wouldn't be over 2000 fucking pages long.

Edit: I know this is the age of AI generated everything, so this had better not turn out to be some jackass with an Alex voice model or I will be very cross.

You know if he really wanted to turn this into a win... he'd quickly spit out the game as "Yandere Developer" and have it be all about a hardworking coder who infiltrates the Unity offices and kills the execs behind this change one by one.

The earliest this is mentioned is on twitter by AllyMcC who starts by hinting at a project that will be completed and released on friday.

Sometime the next day they reveal that they plan on making a video about Alex and how he was caught trying to groom a minor. They announced it on their discord before they talked about it on their twitter.

Hours later the same person quote retweets to add that a friend of the victim has started to talk about the situation on tiktok and that it has gained a lot of attention.

As of writing this Ally has made one tweet to talk about the project but nothing else to confirm if the video will be scrapped because Alex is threatening the victim over her recording the audio in the first place. The victim never specified which state she lives in but Alex lives in California and is saying that he can and will sue the minor he tried to groom for recording him without his consent.

On the one hand, I agree that this can be the case. On the other, one look at his Discord server is enough to realize that this wouldn't be anything special for him, even without the other mountain of allegations. Also, Cuckmeron didn't say "FAKE NEWS, AI GENERATED", he said "DOOD, SHE SAID SHE WAS 18, HOW IS THIS FAIR" and we all know that he is basically Alex's meat puppet.

Semper Fi to @Activelo for archiving all of this.
