I think it's case by case. I've seen fantastic successes of women who became comfortable around men and male sexuality who dropped the whole pooner thing, just by getting close enough to men to be vulnerable with them and realizing it's not what they were afraid of. If they needed the whole manly man act to get to that point in the first place, fine, yet if they never got affection or sexual attention from a man they'd just wallow in their loneliness and inability to form sincere bonds with other people.
