The hacker community has been the home I never had, but I’m not really feeling at home here right now. A hacker community that was precious to me failed someone I love and put my friends in danger. Rape and death had come to our community, and was kept silent. But I am a principled person, and I stand for what is right; I spoke the truth and it brought me and my loved ones agonizing stress and trauma and shook our community to the core. Board members resigned. Marriages are on the rocks. When the dust settled, I was initially uncomfortable staying in this community, but things eventually started to get better. Until another member of this community, someone I trusted and thought of as a friend, confessed to me that he had raped multiple women a few years ago. I submitted my resignation from this community last night.

I went to GPN, a hacker event in Germany, at the start of June. It was a welcome relief from the stress I’ve faced this year, a chance to celebrate hacker culture and a warm reminder of the beauty of our community. It was wonderful. Then, on the last night, a friend took me aside and confided in me that they are a pedophile, and told me it was okay because they respected the age of consent in Germany – which is 14. What began as a wonderful reminder of what the hacker community can be became a PTSD episode and a reminder that rape culture is fucking everywhere.

Honestly, HN comments have been rather okay recently. Don't get me wrong, it's still the same pseudo-intellectual fart sniffing drivel, but at least actual politisperging is taken care of. I think Dan and team finally addressed this during the Musk buying Twitter saga because that's when I started noticing that posts that were foaming at the mouth about le nazi Musk were frequently killed.

They started this when they were initially pushing that tranny Emhke's CoC. The purpose was to have the enforcement body separate from the actual contributors. You can then stack the enforcement body with zealots/opportunists who have no attachment to the project. It may be the same with Drew unless it's just his autism and ego.

I was wondering this. Sourcehut's financial disclosure indicates that the service itself seems to be profitable with a small number of full-time staff and some contractors. Drew doesn't seem to post about it anymore. He can afford to fuck off for weeks at a time to have a people-of-gender CoC-derangement psychotic break because some barely legal developer on Discord didn't fellate the girldick hard enough.

Much like Honeycomb.io, I wouldn't trust a service with such an unpredictable, capricious, and manipulative public face. It's stupid to trust Drew or his cronies to not ban someone from the service for enaging in wrongthink off the platform, or worse, use their priviledged position as a service provider to abuse said user.

I mean, Drew spends most of his time, working on his own OS. So, I think for his company it doesn't matter if he works on an OS nobody uses or arguing over CoCs.

Honestly, I really like SourceHuts UI, the service is fast and seems to stick to what's necessary instead of the bloat that are GitHub and GitLab. But his sperging about git send mail makes me take a distance to it. If I ever got to the position to self host, it'd probably be GiTea or something.
