The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced they will step back as "senior" royals and work to become financially independent.

In a statement, Prince Harry and Meghan also said they plan to split their time between the UK and North America.

The BBC understands no other royal - including the Queen or Prince William - was consulted before the statement and Buckingham Palace is "disappointed".

Senior royals are understood to be "hurt" by the announcement.

In their unexpected statement on Wednesday, also posted on their Instagram page, the couple said they made the decision "after many months of reflection and internal discussions".

"We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."

They said they plan to balance their time between the UK and North America while "continuing to honour our duty to the Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages".

"This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity."

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said discussions with the duke and duchess on their decision to step back were "at an early stage", adding: "We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through."

The couple's announcement on Wednesday comes two months after the Duke of York withdrew from public life after a BBC interview about his ties to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who killed himself in August.

I will never understand this nigga. He had the best job in the country. He gets to blowup sandnigger in an Apache, shag all the posh bints he wants, riches, palaces etc. His only official duties were:
be the cool uncle to Willie's kids;
Do charity work, good charity work at that cos he'd be a "top Royal";
Occasional visits to Bongobongoland when dad or big bro can't be arsed;
Produce a kid or two.

He has FUCKED UP.
Part of it was that he was told to get out of the active bit of the military since he's still up there in the ranks of succession. That gave him a lot of meaning, and losing that took a lot out of him.

He’s #5 now, and he was higher up when he was in the military. Doesn’t smell right.

IIRC, they pulled him out because someone kept leaking his assignments to the press, which put a bullseye on whatever unit he was serving with at the time. It was as much for their safety as his own. He spent his last year in an office job, which is when he founded the Invictus Games, as he could see the writing on the wall vis military service and wanted to maintain a connection.

The real tragedy for Harry is that he's lost his military patronages. He was immensly proud of his military service, even if he didn't move up in rank much, and he didn't seem to understand that the patronages were connected to his position as a working royal. All he's got left is the Invictus games, but it seems meghan has now got him using that as a platform to whine about the royals, so how long he'll be allowed to publicly participate in the ceremonies is anyone's guess.

Perhaps she realizes this but figures it's a bit of publicity so why not?
Or is she really that delusional?
A while back she contacted senators on their private numbers to badger them about family leave or whatever (while purposely introducing herself as "MEGHAN THE DUCHESS OF SUSSEX" lmao).

Meghan Markle blasted for lobbying US senators, using her royal title

Meghan Markle was blasted Thursday after it emerged she has been cold-calling US senators on their private numbers — and using her royal title while lobbying them about the disastrous $3.5 trillion spending bill.

The exiled UK royal — long rumored to have her eyes on the White House — startled the GOP lawmakers when she unexpectedly called them to lobby for federal paid parental leave as part of President Biden’s divisive proposals, they told Politico.

Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) said she was driving when a call came from a blocked number, which she assumed to be Democratic holdout Sen. Joe Manchin.

“And she goes, ‘Senator Capito? … This is Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex,'” Capito recalled to Politico.

“I couldn’t figure out how she got my number,” she said.

Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) told Politico she also got a call from Prince Harry’s wife, who famously turned her back on the royals and accused them of racism in a bombshell TV sitdown.

“Much to my surprise, she called me on my private line and she introduced herself as the Duchess of Sussex, which is kind of ironic,” Collins said, according to Politico reporter Marianne LeVine.

“I was happy to talk with her. But I’m more interested in what the people of Maine are telling me about it,” the senator then insisted dismissively.

News of the cold calls and former actress Markle’s reliance on her duchess title quickly sparked outrage.

“GOOD GRIEF! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?” one angry voter put it simply.

Political pundit Darren Grimes called it further proof that Markle and Harry have turned into an “insufferable pair.”

“If you have to cold-call someone, impress them with the force of your argument. Not by trading on the royal title of an institution you and your husband have done so much to undermine,” GB News host Colin Brazier tweeted.

Another British commentator said it was finally time “for the Gov to put things in motion to remove the use of their titles.”

“They are breaking all Royal rules using them for political means & commercial gain,” tweeted Jackie P.

Proud royal watcher Brittany Gadoury stressed that “Meghan Markle the American citizen can call senators all day long” — but “Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex has no place meddling in US politics.”

“The use of her title to influence policy here in America is WRONG!” she tweeted.

Others mocked Markle for using the title after her husband — who, like his wife, was forced to stop using HRH after Megxit — had claimed he was going to have a low-key presence as a regular citizen.

“The ‘just call me Harry’ moment didn’t last long did it?” Catherine Brown wrote.

Capito and Collins both told Politico they were not expecting their calls from Markle over the parental-leave pay that she is pushing for.

However, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) confirmed to the outlet that she gave the duchess senators’ numbers, claiming she has been warning her colleagues to expect calls.

“I talked to each of the women senators and let them know that she’s going to reach out, because she only completed two of the calls,” Gillibrand told the outlet Wednesday.

“She’s going to call some others, so I let them know in advance,” Gillibrand said.

Markle previously called on Congress to pass the federal paid parental leave program in an open letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

Now free of the burden of royal duties, Markle is rumored to be considering a possible future run for president.

If it wasn't for the fact that she does shit like this in private I could believe she's just trying to create publicity.

No, she really is that delusional. She seems to have imagined this fantasy life of being Diana Reincarnated/Queen of England/A-List Hollywood Royalty/Social Media Superstar Influencer/President of the United States/Universally Beloved Darling that she pretends is real and is trying to live out (and laughably failing at). Basically a grown womanchild still playing make believe like a 6 year old, but she's trying to live as if her make believe fantasy is actually real, and she's at constant war with the world because it won't play along.

(Similar to how Elaine LARPs as a hacker queen/James Bond sektor girl/whatever has crossed her ADHD-addled brain this week, but unlike Elaine Meghan has resources and an army of race-baiting useful idiots to perform her LARP offline and have influence in the real world.)

The irony is that she could have got all of that if she had played nice and smarter. Even pretending to be nice could have opened more doors. Look at Diana and all her charity work, fake or not, that opened doors for her even after she stopped being part of the Royal Family. Meghan didn't even have to do that, only shut the fuck up. Brits love their cool royals and having an "American princess" could have been a novelty she didn't exploit because her stupid black genes didn't show up on her skin but rather on her brain.

at age 6 the boys say "i want to be an astronaut" and the girls say "i want to be a princess"
usually the kids grow out of it but meghan apparently is still clinging to her version of the princess dream

Only for sane, intelligent people. As you implied she's got the hoodrat gene, and hoodrats gonna hoodrat no matter what incredible opportunities come their way or their station in life. She will fail at absolutely everything because she's inherently a fuckup.

And for anyone who brings up her Suits role: her ex-husband Trevor got her that role, she didn't get it through her own hard work or skill. She also ended up in the BRF because Harry is an easily manipulated and gullible dumbfuck, not because she had good character or was otherwise worthy of it in any way. Every valuable thing she has was given to her by someone else. She isn't intelligent or skilled, she's just astonishingly lucky.
She isn't even that good at grifting. She's only able to grift gullible idiots who don't know anything about her or braindead professional race grievancers.

ETA: That's also not true. You're talking as if Meghan wanted to be a regular royal family member with the fame and approval that comes with it for anyone who joins. Yes, Meghan squandered the opportunities that any sane reasonable person would've made the best of.

My point is that is not what Meghan wants. Meghan is not your average sane, reasonable person with reasonable expectations and goals. Meghan wants to be the next Diana, who was almost universally loved and admired. Actually Meghan wants to be MORE than Diana, because Diana wasn't many of those things I listed. Meghan wants to be that and more. That's how insanely inflated her ego is. And that's how absolutely delusional she is.

Even someone who works hard and plays the game well isn't going to become a Diana. I think Kate plays the game as well as anyone can, and she has plenty of approval, but she isn't a Diana figure. It takes a rare combination of personality and circumstance to produce the worldwide sensation that Diana was.

Didn't know that. I stopped caring about Livejournal when I discovered it was sold to Russia. I wonder how black women came to use it? I always considered it a white angstfag website.
Oh No They Didn't was one of the biggest, bitchiest gossip communities for years and was established by black women and specifically catered to/attracted minority gossipfags, who would join LJ just to comment on posts. White emo teens eventually abandoned Livejournal once other social media platforms took off, but the ONTD community lasted for ages, even crashed LJ servers at some points.

Traffic has tanked in recent years since the white gays/women moved to ATRL and black women moved to LSA. OTND saw Meghan as a grifter who couldn't stay out of the spotlight after demanding privacy but LSA considers her a traitor for inventing a minority struggle narrative when she had one of the whitest childhoods possible.

I think Kate’s MO is better for the long term. Diana’s star would’ve eventually burned out if she hadn’t died.

Since this thread is effectively dead (until the next major drama like the Harkles divorce or Meghan auctions off Lilibet's organs for funds or something), I want to recommend the YouTuber According 2taz to anyone still interested in Meghan drama.

I've followed a few YouTubers who report on Meghan and Taz is the best quality. She's a British Royal Family watcher but the majority of her reporting is Meghan drama. She gathers tons of interesting info, is reliable AFAIK (no false or retarded conspiracy theory shit), she notices important details and provides valuable context (for example re: the supposed NYC car chase: Taz pointed out that Taylor Swift was also in NYC at that time and she wasn't hounded or chased by paps, which makes Meghan's claim even more ludicrous), shows tons of headlines, photos, video clips and funny shit, and doesn't drone on endlessly about her own personal opinions like some other YTers do.

TLDR: Taz's videos are packed with juicy info and funny shit with no conspiracy BS and a minimum of personal opinion. Basically what any good Farms post should be in video form. Just skip the boring BRF fagging at the beginning of her videos.

I'll also mention Lost Beyond Pluto for one reason: She has some legal background and I find her commentary on things like Samantha's case against Meghan valuable. I remember her pointing out that Samantha's original case would probably be dismissed because of a technical issue and she was correct, so she seems to know what she's talking about. (Think of her like the Rekieta of the Meghansphere, but less drunk and without an anus full of Jamaican semen probably.)

That said Pluto doesn't provide as much info as Taz, she does a LOT of moralfagging which can get annoying, and I find her videos somewhat pompous.

So there you go my fellow Meghanfags. May you continue to follow petty shit nobody cares about long into the sunset.

It's not that dead, they can't stop doing retarded things.
Yeah but it isn't as entertaining as it once was. Seems like Meghan has played almost every card she had and anything she does now she already did before, so no one's surprised and no one really cares anymore. The shock value is mostly gone and as with everything she's ever done even her attempts to conjure drama are now mediocre. This is now one of the more boring threads on the Farms and even r/SaintMeghanMarkle is mostly petty nitpicking and Princess Superior Kate fagging.

As I said I don't expect this thread to fire up again until the divorce happens or a genuine scandal drops, like she's caught in 4k abusing her kids or something.

Diana was a whore and a disgrace. I'm glad that Phil had her killed, we truly didn't deserve him.

Diana was a whore and a disgrace.
Diana was a psycho who abused her husband and mistreated her kids. I wasn't trying to imply that she was a saint, only that people around the world adored (and still adore) her and she had a level of star power that can't be attained through hard work and respectability alone. Diana was a psycho, but she was also fashionable and knew how to play the press to earn sympathy and present herself as likable. (And despite her psycho side she did do many genuinely good things.) Most people can't pull that off.

people around the world adored (and still adore) her
this is something i never understood and still don't understand. what made people obsess over her so much, why was she loved and adored by so many? as far as i know she never did anything notable aside from marrying a prince, and other women who married british princes later (camilla and kate middleton) didn't attract the kind of cultish devotion that diana had, so it can't be just that.

Diana is a product of her time. She got married at the start of the 80s, when the hippie era was ending and we entered one of pure consumerism. We didn't have the Internet, so all entertainment came from tabloids and magazines, which made cases like Diana something they needed to sell more issues.

So, the hippie movement and their rebellions were fading, and now we have time of economic bonanza and a beautiful princess... of course media was going to exploit that, especially during the first years: people wanted to dress like Diana, people bought anything related to her. They "consumed" her figure. You could buy a Madonna's album or watch any Stallone's movie... but you consumed Diana the person and her life and actions. Once her marriage collapsed, they kept consuming her drama.

Lots of ingredients went into the Diana Adoration stew, I've talked to people who viewed her basically as their angelic idol and it's always:

  • Considered very beautiful, elegant, mannered and charismatic; despite being incredibly wealthy/posh, she connected with the gen pop at a time when the BRF was being viewed as particularly out of touch and outdated; she complained often in her memoirs that they seemed to exist in another world apart from the average person because they were so oblivious and sheltered. Plus her humanitarian work and advocacy, etc. impressed a lot of people who considered her nice and approachable, not stiff and overly formal
  • She was open and honest about her struggles and pain, with anorexia, parental divorce, depression, loneliness, etc. instead of BRF stiff upper lip culture. She was a pioneer oversharer and you can see a lot of her blueprint with the celebs today who talk at length about muh mental health, and how people lap it up so they don't feel alone in their own struggles.
  • A lot of pity and sympathy, she was seen as basically a kid who got dragged uncomprehendingly into the BRF mess because she was carried away by love for the older Charles, bullied by the royal family, ostracized, silenced, up to the point where people still sincerely believe she was murdered tragically. She played into this by releasing the memoir confirming this image and venting about how bad everyone in the family treated her which confirmed all the animosity towards the BRF and resounded with people treated badly by their in laws
  • A lot of divorced women sympathized with her and saw her as an innocent and blameless martyr for abused and cucked wives and single mothers everywhere while Charles was a heartless monster.
  • Some gave her a postmortem pseudo-canonization as a symbol for independence and progressive feminism against rigid patriarchal and conservative institutions while others just saw her as a perfect Disney princess
  • Most of her controversies were either not well-known or didn't measure up to the hatred people felt against Charles and Camilla. To this day the average person doesn't know about what she did to Tiggy, etc. but everyone has seen the empowerment "revenge dress" and heard about him wondering about being reincarnated as a tampon.
  • Died before she had a chance to do something visibly problematic

tl;dr Be beautiful, be nice, let people get emotionally involved in your family drama, then die
