Since it's kind of on topic, here's a (British) women from art history moment for you. This story not only includes deranged suffragettes but also highlights the cultural difference between Continental European culture and that of foggy Albion:

This painting is Diego Velázquez' The Mirror Venus, painted in the mid 1600s. It is remarkable for its portrayal of the female form, since she doesn't look like a stocky man with painted-on tits, as was the style at the time (look at Reubens or Rembrandt's depictions of women if you want to compare and contrast). Note how the beauty of Venus' well lit back, from hair to toe, contrasts with her shadowy and hazy expression in the mirror. Note also that this is intended as a representation of the unsurmountable tension and separation between body and soul. As she looks at us through the mirror we may begin to see this separation reflected within ourselves. You will find few, if any examples of art like this in the given time period. It is a high water mark not only for Spanish art and culture but for Western European art and culture as well.

But the provenance of this picture and how it got to be where it is now might be of particular interest: during the Napoleonic wars, it was stolen by an English officer and sold to an aristocrat in London. In the beginning of the 20th century, it passed from a private collection to the British National Gallery. A few years later, in March of 1914, it would be cut up by Canadian suffragette by the name of Mary Richardson.

Mary Richardson was an agent provocateur that prior to the first world war is known to have participated in beatings, bombings, arsons, etc, all in the name of women's lib and voting rights. With the onset of WW1 she called for women to replace the men that had gone to the war at their jobs, even if it meant work without compensation. After WW1 she was a socialist parliamentary candidate for the Labour Party in the 1922 General Election (she did not get the seat), and in 1932 she became a fascist and joined Oswald Mosley's "British Union of Fascists", becoming Chief Organiser for the Women's Section by 1934 and leaving the party two years after that due to "becoming disillusioned with the sincerity of its policy on women". With the onset of WW2 she seemingly swung back to an antifascist position, generally spreading anti-German propaganda and agitating for the deaths of German soldiers.

Her reasoning for cutting up The Mirror Venus was, as may be expected, retarded. here it is in her own words: (TLDR - suffragette elder Emmeline Pankhurst got old and it's men's fault so the Venus gets a slashing)

"I have tried to destroy the picture of the most beautiful woman in mythological history as a protest against the Government for destroying Mrs Pankhurst, who is the most beautiful character in modern history. Justice is an element of beauty as much as colour and outline on canvas. Mrs Pankhurst seeks to procure justice for womanhood, and for this she is being slowly murdered by a Government of Iscariot politicians. If there is an outcry against my deed, let every one remember that such an outcry is an hypocrisy so long as they allow the destruction of Mrs Pankhurst and other beautiful living women, and that until the public cease to countenance human destruction the stones cast against me for the destruction of this picture are each an evidence against them of artistic as well as moral and political humbug and hypocrisy."

Mrs Pankhurt's biography is also interesting, as are her daughters' biographies. One of them, for example. went on to co-found the Communist Party of Australia. In any case, I think it's safe to say that neither Ms Richardson (she never married, though did adopt a boy) in particular nor the British in general ever understood the meaning behind this work of art, rather looking at it as pornography and a degradatory depiction of women simply because she is turned with her nude backside to the viewer. Thankfully the painting was not destroyed so completely that it prevented it from being restored (on a sidenote, how hard is it to tear up a painting? This lady couldn't do anything right)

I will say that I haven't read any of his original works. Just a series that was fucked by Mark Millar, which Ennis came on board after just to piss all over. Really cemented my opinion on Brits in comics.

She's on twitter now. She is one of the OG fujos, writing The Outsiders when she was still a teenager. However she vehemently denies that any of the characters are gay while constantly lusting after a gay model that is officially sponsored by Tom of Finland.
