Tech you miss/ new tech trends you hate - ok boomers

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
I hate youtube shorts. They don't save where you were at 5 seconds ago, so fuck you if you go to another tab or scroll by accident. You can't skip or go back to any part either. It will just load the next one with some irrelevant discord meme featuring a shitskin retard spazzing out.

I miss forums.

A lot of my teenage years were spent roleplaying on forum websites for weeb shit. I met a lot of people who were pretty influential in my life through that and I still enjoy the writing that goes along with.

Basically every forum always had a life expectancy. It was something along the lines of how much bullshit could the community take from the Owners/Higher level characters being cunts before it got to be too much bullshit and the whole thing fell apart.

Normally you'd run into the same people in the same circles because often forums would reform and the same interested people would come back. As a result people would kinda get a reputation as you'd expect and you would generally know who was who, or what certain sites admins were like, what was a spin-off of who, etc. etc.

Now we have discord.

I hate discord. The word count is too small, the quality is ass, and there's too many faggots shitting up the place with their god damned pronouns and gender identity. Plus everyone wants to have their NSFW Porn sharing bullshit, and everyone has OOC channels where they all hang out all day and fuck me, its just so damn annoying.
You can't make friends or be a part of a community on discord. Its just cliques of retards spazzing out acting like they're better than everyone else and banning people for fun all day. Its only "random" when you show up, but when they do anything its the best thing ever.

It seems like every social media out there wants to replicate TikTok's shorts style. YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, what's the point?

I hate that developers are focused on toxic text/voice chat instead of cheating or predatory microtransactions. If you speak a different language and the system detects it as a slur in the English language, too bad. Learn English and learn what slurs are bad.
In Counter Strike 2 (Formerly Global Offensive's) I noticed a correlation between mutes and skill. A few months ago I found out how to unmute them and realized it's 50/50 between someone with a really annoying mic or voice and someone who's just genuinely good at strategy and the other team decided to abuse that reporting feature.

Sports games started this trend of thinking they're worth $70 at launch, but still have the audacity to fleece players for more money just to be competitive or enjoy the full package. I know I've been ranting and bitching about sports games lately. It baffles me that there are people that encourage, enable this sort of anti-consumer behavior in their products.

I miss it when sports games had competition ten, twenty years ago. It gave consumers options and buying power, which allows developers and publishers to build upon their existing foundation for your purchase.

I know a lot about that issue. EA gets the monopoly on the rights on sports companies which in turn allows them to get away with making the same game over and over again despite all the people calling them out thanks to a bunch of people who play their games not giving a shit about the fact they got ripped off.

Why does this shit keep happening on YouTube? I shouldn't have other people's videos on a search function basically designed for the channel.

Yeah. When searching for the precise video. It gets really annoying. All the goyslop material comes up on top while independent creator's content gets completely hidden.

I am once again informing people of the existence of add-ons such as BlockTube which you can use to get rid of individual channels and videos.

miss: videos being only horizontal

diss: vertical videos because of "smartphones"

Remember, zoomerfags only use social media as their main source for entertainment these days
There's the claim that vertical videos "feel more genuine" and "spur of the moment" and horizontal videos "feel overproduced" -- BS from "smartphones" and "social media".

9/10 times when some faggot has a cyrillic/kanji username they are a cheater or glownigger of some kind and should be permabanned immediately on principle.

Every time I need to search for something I start off frustrated because the first 10 results will be AI generated faq articles or stores selling stuff completely unrelated to my search, and half the sites you click will use some type of newsletter pop up immediately asking for your email address. I try to avoid mobile browsing other than the farms because you need 10+ extensions to even make web browsing work nowadays.

Even once you get past that, good luck finding anything. Used to be that Google crawled the entire web, had a searchable cache of everything, and could reliably find something for you if if actually existed. Today that's not even close to true, Google and every other search engine's crawl is incomplete, and as a result you're lucky if you get any hits on slightly obscure stuff. As a result, this intensifies the consolidation of the internet into a few big sites, small enclaves of content aren't even discoverable any more.
The sector is ripe for disruption by someone that finds a way to dredge this deep web content and provide a path to discovery, but the barrier for entry into the search sector is now absurdly high so I can't see it happening.

It's a SEO arms race, and the crap sites do it better.

Yeah but once upon a time I could at least exhaustively find what I wanted on page fifty. Now it's just not in there full stop and nobody's crawled the content. Which is a huge shame. I've found a lot of stuff that should be easily discoverable on search engines via alternative means, but I still end up on a plain web page that could and should have been crawled. That was always a golden part of the web's charm to me, I could find some random autistic fucker's ramblings tucked away somewhere buried in the ass end of a search result. Nowadays, not so much.

This made me quit Battlebit. Your voice gets recorded if you want to use voice ingame (also text). Good luck
