besides the gore I'm shocked at how much of the idf seems to have folded under the assault they are in place to prevent. how does the "defense force" allow this? are they capable of anything besides airstrike retaliation?

Its stuff like this that makes me think why they don't allow their civilian population to arm themselves. At the very least, they should be arming them now. I mean, the vast majority of them have military training and could coordinate militia units to take care of the ones that get past the IDF.

As of March 2023 only 2% of Israelis owned firearms. They mostly apparently see guns as a means of national defense in the arms of soldiers.
The German left seems to be completely rattled, the greens especially have been pro palastine for a long time but the images and videos that came out of Israel have them stunned. Turns out savages are just savages no matter how you dress them up. there's not much of "muh occupation" cope that helps against pictures of children gunned down in basements.

Might not be from Russia, hell there's lenty of NATO members who wanna kill eachother. Hell i could believe turkey would do this to destabilize Romania, Bulgaria, and Greece. Maybe some non-nato members like Serbia ( though this one's a bit of a stretch). Hell maybe even the chinks had a hand, there is nothing about this situation that is disadvantageous for them.

At a minimum they should go the Swiss Army route and while guns are nominally banned, if you complete reservist training and add your name to the muster roll, you get to keep your service rifle. Which in effect means universal gun ownership with some extra hurdles, and also a better way of weeding out psycho's and assorted undesirables from getting guns.
Two factors in defense of the Israelis:
1. They have about 20% arabs in their country that they really don't want armed and since their constitution doesn't allow the denial of rights among ethnic lines they can't really do a 2A just for jews.
2. So far their quick mobilization has always saved them. This is the first time they were temporarily overrun in Israel proper (1973 saw most of the early disasters on the Sinai and Golan heights).
I think they will definitely arm their populance outside conscripts and reservists now though.

What exactly will this entail? It can mean quite a few things. For example, the US 6th fleet has alot of firepower it could park off shore for close support. Or it could just mean intelligence sharing and satellite time. Pretty big difference between the two.
