Finishing translation. As a reminder, this is a left-wing Israeli journo writing:Xitter thread from Haaretz journalist Chaim Levinson, to give you an idea of how the mood on the Israeli left is changing. Levinson is not quite Gideon Levy self-hating level, but he's pretty close. My translation below:
Seeing Netanyahu's worthlessness and hearing very troubling leaks from discussions. They're extremely far away from what is happening here [i.e. the situation]. They're busy with [discussing] neutralizing Hamas's [military] abilities will all sorts of unclear words. This is not what's happening here.
What Hamas did on Saturday is the closest possible thing to an existential threat to the state of Israel. It's not pain from the dead after a difficult terror attack. This is an existential threat to the state of Israel. We're not in '48, we're in the era of Facebook Live. The power of modern media and social networks amplifies events ten times over. We're in a war worse then the War of Independence, because it's being livestreamed.
The whole world sees a country that experienced a program like in the beginning of the Holocaust. Attacking towns, killing families, kidnapping children, taking pleasure in death and destruction.
Hezbollah is sitting and watching. Iran and its proxies are sitting and watching. If Hezbollah does the same thing, it will be the Simchat Torah disaster times ten. The state will not collapse because Jerusalem will be conquered. We're in a different era. It will collapse because the economy will collapse, because no one will want to get close, because the best of its sons will fall and there will be no one to take their place, because they'll flee and leave.
Israel cannot take another blow like this. What is at stake is not the question of "Gaza [and] Hamas, yes or no" but our existence here, in the most basic and literal and immediate sense.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a war crime [sic]. Truman murdered women and children with complete knowledge of the price. But there was no choice. The other possiblity was a more extensive, larger bloodbath.
He burned [the Japanese] consciousness with his decision to wipe two Japanese cities off the [face of] the earth. The spilling of blood brought peace with it.
We don't need to wipe out Gaza, but the Israeli response needs to stop fucking around [idiom] about the [airstrikes on the] Islamic Bank. We need to burn in to the world, Islamic, and Israeli consciousnesses that the State of Israel will remain, will exist, at any price. Many innocents will die.
This is the painful truth. Kahanists will be happy. This saddens me. But this is a decisive moment. If there will not be a response that causes the whole world to take about what Israel did to to Gaza for a week, many more innocents will die. Both Israelis and Palestinians.
I would like to live in a better world. But we don't live in a better world. There is a book by Daniel Yehuda Goldhagen, "Hitler's Willing Executioners" which deals with the question of how Germans happily engaged in extermination. He claimed that the writing was on the wall. That was the unique type [nature?] of German antisemitism, to exterminate the Jews. Simply to exterminate.
There are good people in Gaza. There are innocents. There were good Germans that were tortured and imprisoned by Hitler. There were officers in the German army who mutinied. This is all true. But there is a horde in Gaza, a critical mass, of murderers of children, of spitters on corpses, of beheaders with sickles, liking posts and celebrating.
It is impossible to carry out such a satanic barbaric and cruel plan for the murder of elderly women and children without years of long and extensive education to widespread and deep antisemitic, eliminationist hatred, with a fervent belief in the correctness of the path and racial supremacy.
Many in Gaza need to die today and tomorrow, so that fewer die in the future. Neither the Islamic Bank nor clips from the IDF spokesman to persuade us that we won. Rather, worldwide headlines on how Israel responded, so that anyone in the world who has thoughts of repeating the slaughter will know that the taste of hellish torture awaits him. This is why we have a state. Wake up already.
She sounds so fake, holy shit. The dramatic voice breaking, the pauses, the tears. I mean the footage is very disturbing, no argument there, but you'd expect news anchors to be either made of sterner stuff or better at faking emotions. Maybe I'm just cynical, I dunno.Damn Australia, I know it's tough to watch, but you seem to be taking this personally somehow...
The whole theatre is quite entertaining considering it was leaked that Israel and Saudis share intelligence like two years ago. So I guess their relationship status on Facebook will remain complicated lolWelp, no Saudi normalisation I guess, boo fucking hoo
Saudi Arabia ends "all negotiations" on normalisation with Israel.

https://archive.ph/kORvKIsraeli Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant said:I have ordered a complete siege on the Gaza Strip. There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed. We are fighting human animals and we are acting accordingly.
Slight PL/somewhat OT: someone who is close to me used to work in a 3rd party contracted facility that houses under-18 illegals before they get deported or sent to a “sponsor” in the US (usually a family member)View attachment 5396857
There are a lot of nations on that list besides the highlighted ones that we should be concerned about.
gonna put on my retard hat for a second so bare with me but: if the papa johns already has the shit to make pizza and the shit would otherwise go to waste wouldn't using it to feed soldiers be a very smart and good thing to do? pizza is pretty calorically dense and I don't think papa slops can force their delivery drivers to schlep pizza in an active warzone. Only going by this train of thought because IIRC IDF supply lines are totally borked right now.Israel has shut off water supplies to Gaza:

Remember all those memes from the Ukraine war about what if Prigozhin was American? Papa John's is looking for volunteers to bring soldiers pizza:

Still alive, has the flu so cant do much regardless. The region is yet to be hit by anyone. Jokes about living long enough/getting rent cut down from blown up house are played out but he is still just waiting for time to pass.I have a friend who lives in Kiryat Motzkin, is there anywhere anyone knows about where he can leave too. He is retired and not poor but not terribly mobile...if hes fucked just tell me and ill relay that to em.
Edit: Been chatting to him. He knows he cant do anything else about it. No point in worrying about futility as he said.

I'm seeing the inside job sentiment from alot of people at work here too.
Israel simply stopped supplying stuff they didn't say they would stop Egypt from providing shit over the border. Also leadership said they expect to launch a ground assault within 48 hours. They will advance if they encounter resistance blow up the building and repeat.A Siege on Gaza? Oh that's not gonna work.
What are you going to do, starve them all to death, deny medical supplies and water to hundreds of thousands of kids unless what? They turn on their parents?
Hamas will have plenty of food and supplies for themselves and gladly watch the hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians starve to death. This is not a strategy that will get bleeding heart sympathy and the International community can not back a siege like this.
Try again Israel.
In 2003 I had just quit my job the day before the war in Iraq started. I was glued to the tv for two weeks with nothing else to do watching it all unfold. Now I lay in my bed obsessively refreshing a gossip website and I can see events as they occur in real time."Muh holocaust" aside, this is a very important thing to keep in mind. People share everything in an instant nowadays. Victories, defeat, suffering and celebration alike. Unless some higher power gets involved, there is an instant and uncensored stream of information available to both the public and all sides involved in a war. You don't have to wait days for news from the front line and the people involved, the results of your acts are there in an instant, for everyone to see and for you to utilize.
It's a horrible thing from a warfare perspective, because it makes psychological warfare both more and less effective. More because even people that aren't directly affected see the effects in real-time and human empathy does the rest, and less because it can just as quickly mount to a massive resistance.
Since this website has the leading experts on terminal autism, they are the prime candidates to analyse and entangle the politics of the Middle East. Now I lay in my bed obsessively refreshing a gossip website and I can see events as they occur in real time.
Wonder how all of those protesters are handling the situation at the moment? Still bitching about a "dictatorial regime?"In an announcement on Sunday, all but three of the 40 reservist pilots in Israel’s elite 69 Squadron said they would not take part in a training exercise later this week, and instead participate in widespread public protests, claiming they were not prepared to serve a “dictatorial regime”.
