Reform isn’t special in terms of being open to converts (have you seen how many converts to Orthodox Judaism are black?) but as Reform is based on rejecting Torah observance, so-called “converts” to Reform Judaism are not recognized as Jewish by Jewish law. The Reform and Conservative movements have done a great disservice to many people by failing to impress this fact upon them. That’s how so many Reform “converts” end up shocked to learn that their children aren’t Jewish because neither are they. If you’re a guy it doesn’t matter so much to your life outcomes (though you won’t be allowed burial in a Jewish cemetery) but a woman who wants her kids to be considered Jewish for the purposes of Jewish marriage, preschool, day school attendance, etc. needs an Orthodox conversion from a recognized rabbinical court.
