we have no evidence that would support her being like this though, other than JFs word (which is worth nothing) so him killing her remains the more plausible explanation
Because there is the exception of crazy strung out mothers who take off, I’ll address that;
Addict mom who abandons two kids on whim have long arrest records, lots of CPS involvement, rarely have stable housing, usually have just as bad off addict baby daddy, or no baby daddy, and never look as well groomed and chubby as Mama JF. They generally look like meth scarecrows or morbidly obese mental cases.
Elora was very domesticated and had been living with JF in a little house, that they had petitioned twice to improve, making bone broth and playing with water for over four years. This is the opposite of the profile of crazy addict mom that abandons young children on a whim.
I’ll also point out most crazy addict moms usually only abandon their kids to go on binges, and usually it’s a case of dropped off at a babysitters “for a few hours” and come back a week later. Even crazy addict moms rarely abandon kids, they neglect and abuse them but still try to hold on to them. Most of the cases of crazy addict mom abandoning kids are cases of losing custody due to neglect, and give up trying to get clean to get custody/ visits, not just “k bye” and disappearing off the map.
JF is so autistic he’d think a six people smoking weed and drinking beer watching Netflix were a den of degenerates. Everything we’ve seen about Elora’s past looks like pretty typical young dumb early 20’s behavior. Even the naked photos come from a protest. If Elora was a terrible addict she would have been naked in the streets because she thought bugs were crawling all over her, not because of govt rate hikes or secularism. I don’t even recall what dumb naked protest she was involved in.

Relapses don’t go from zero to 10,0000 in a few weeks. She had a baby in the last six months. Even if she was a hardcore crazy junkie in her past (she wasn’t) relapses begin with casual use and ramp up. The minute JF noticed her using, sneaking out to meet a dealer, etc…he would have flipped his shit. He would have also mentioned this. With all the shit talking he’s doing now there’s no way he would not mention finding her smoking meth in the nursery or her sudden descent into addiction. Instead he describes it as a totally sober Elora just deciding to go off to be a survivalist, then implies she will return to her old degenerate ways now that she’s gone.
Also if she was just out being a crazy junkie she’d be fairly easy to find. Crazy addicts in the city are a constant source of trouble and contact to cops and social workers. They beg, they steal, they need free food and whatever free govt services they can abuse. She’d be in contact with people she knew simple to try and con meth money off of them.
Addicts don’t go live in the wilderness, they go off to squat drug-infested areas of cities with other addicts, because easy access to their drugs of choice is their sole motivation in life. Only when bears and squirrels start selling meth and heroin will you see junkies take an interest in the wilderness living.
The only believable way JF’s story of her behavior could make any sense is if she was suffering from severe post-partum psychosis and her getting dropped off was because she intended to immediately go jump off a bridge and die. I could also believe JF to be one a person who would enjoy talking and goading a depressed, unstable Elora into suicide.
