Goodbye Volcano High - "The Future of Gaming", The Parody Game of the Beloved Snoot Game Franchise

I will admit, to this game’s credit, the music is pretty haunting. The voice of Fang is actually a pretty good singer.
Fang's voice actress isn't the only one singing for Fang. Her name is Brigitte Naggar.
They should have just made a rhythm game if that's the case. The music and mechanics for it seem to be where the majority of "effort" went to.
the rhythm minigame doesn't even matter, you can fail it and it doesn't change a thing. It's no Project Diva where missing a note fucks up the song being performed back at you.

D&D section trying and failing of course to have 80´s anime style, looks like a parody you will see on MAD

I think i read the tard troon form shit guardian spice was in this disaster no?, explains the shit artstyle for a generic magic al girl series in universe, that also feels like a bad parody

You can read the rest on the thread if you have some minutes to kill, is a lot since it talks about scrapped game mechanics too

Ya know, I could actually dig an 80's anime style, if they were actually Earnest about it. Seriously, I kinda have a sort of nostalgic feel fo that era of anime style and if they fully committed to it, I'd be down.

"too edgy" yet they went even more edgy somehow. Honestly, the D&D character reveal felt like their entire game was just a parody of edgy teenagers but injected with Current Year IDPOL stereotypes. Had I not seen the tweets sent from the devs in this thread, I would have thought Goodbye Volcano High was a 4chan project not unlike Snoot.

Baby Fang and baby Naser are adorable, also some cut stuff that just is a shame that never made it pass the concept stage.

Seriously, a dressing mini game, having a playable DnD section, maybe even a playable magical dino girl thing? That would've made the game more engaging than the snooze fest we ended up having.

Edit: gonna archive the rest of the images in case anything happens to that /v/ archive

Imagine if the L&L section was gonna be like playing a session of Hand of fate, except instead of fight you get to play music.
Speacking of which, an we talk about the fact that the dealer from that game, a old geezer with all but the eyes and arms covered display more personality than the entire character row of gvh combined?

probably because the devs of Hand of Fate had more than a simple idea of a setting and knew what they wanted to present to their players. KO_PE only had a vague idea of a setting, a character roster and a gameplay design - "uh, dinosaurs are cool! Plus we need more representation for trans and nonbinary peeps! Uuuh, we really like rhythm games but we also don't want to challenge our handicapable queer playerbase, also choices matterTM"

Hell, you can prob do L&L in several ways. Have one encounter be a music battle, have another be in vain of OG Final Fantasy games, maybe another can be done as a sort off nod to ol'magic girl anime. The leaked art shows that these ideas were on the books.

I can only imagine the sheer number of actual gameplay concepts that were thought of, brought up to the other team members, conceptualized with art, only to die off in the prototyping stage. I mean, lots of games have features (or even whole games themselves) bite the dust in the testing and implementation stage, but GVH is what I'd imagine you'd get it every gameplay concept in a game got cut for time at the 11th hour. Even the stuff that made it in, like the rhythm sections, just do... nothing.

I actually really, really like those ideas.
Given that Trish' L&L character found a magic axe I was fully expecting there to be some Rock Off with the villain and that could totally have worked with the music "minigame" they already made - give the player a Guitar Hero-esque interface and hit the buttons correctly, deal damage to the villain.
Rosa and Naomi's L&L character designs could have been a mix of Magical Girl animu and High Fantasy robes befitting of a druid(I guess that's the closest class for Rosa) and a priest/paladin for Naomi.

A Final Fantasy style battle against the final villain could have been cool, too.
But just like so much of GBVH, they axed all of the cool and relatively fresh ideas in favour of being a 30 dollar faux visual novel/interactive movie with the tamest, "queer friendly" content I've experienced to date.

Yeah 100%. Reading that archived Snoot thread with the game leaks, I'm actually feeling something akin to sadness on behalf of KO_PE - that Kate Gray incident seems to have had larger ramifications than I initially believed. If the game was "done" back in 2021 but they had to rewrite it.. Talk about development hell.

If I were a genuine fan of the game, I'd actually be a little pissed - paying 30 dollars for five hours, only to see how much axed content they've been putting onto their Discord. Just a liiittle salty.

That dress up minigame. What a loss.

The whole thing is such a missed opportunity. Great character design, great music, but let down by poor management. Workers' co-operatives are probably a bad idea in general, but especially for such a competitive industry as video games.

I have this theory, that after the whole controversy with that Kate chick happened, they probably had to scrap the whole thing they made and needed to work from scratch and during this whole thing I wouldn't be shocked if these guys lost whatever passion they had for this project, but they couldn't cancel it because Sony was probably breathing down their necks. 'Cause, all this leaked stuff shows they had ideas, and some of them WERE probably put into the 2021 game but ended up in the waste basket now.

Like I said, the problem can only have been with the management, and their misuse of resources. They had enough money, they had enough time, but couldn't seem to do what they wanted to.

Telltale, Quantic Dream, and DONTNOD would all have done a better job with the premise.
