Yes. I remember him from DP, he would debate Christians mostly. He had a rap battle with GMan that was beyond cringeworthy, but entertaining at least. After that I forgot he existed until this story got mainpaged here.

Agreed after his stint with DP I never followed him because of the cringe. Amazing how a lot of this shit leads back to that sector of YouTube. He was working at Duke University from 2012-2015 as a post-doctoral researcher, not part of the faculty. He was funded by a research grant from Quebec. He left the position in the spring of 2015. The reason for his leaving is either his relationship and break-up with an undergrad student Diana Xie, or his desire to be an stay-at-home parent immediately after discovering that his wife is pregnant.

I happen to think the reason why he recieved funding was because of significant support from his research group leader from the University of Montreal. His research group was led by Réjean Dubuc, who is a well established researcher in his field and probably good at acquiring funding from different organizations.

My recollection from a debate he had with hotwheels during the IBS days is that the book is about a kind of a dystopian future he proposed

The idea is that people will stop reproducing by fucking and instead only reproduce by in vitro fertilization with genetic modification. The reason he believes this will happen is because the genetically modified super-people will be more fit evolutionarily. Then these test tube people will get bored of selecting the genes to be modified to their IVF children and allocate that task to artificial intelligence. Then the artificial intelligence will decide to change the genes to suit its own needs (whatever they may be). So in effect, humans will become simply a slave race for the machines.

It sounds retarded and it is retarded. It is not a scientific theory or even really a hypothesis because there is no reason to expect that anything like that will happen.
