The hostage releases are clever because it now provides an added reason for the IDF to delay entry, especially giving the US hope that its captured citizens could be released instead of killed so they'll push even harder for a delay. Every day Israel delays going in their justification and morale will erode and the cost of maintaining their huge activated reserve force will mount.
