In terms of “dark theory based on nothing but the pilot”, here’s mine:

The reason they can’t leave/don’t remember their names is because their “real selves” aren’t actually there. All of them are just “copies” of the people who put on the headset. The thing scanned their minds, made a copy, and stuck that in the computer.

Maybe it’s a test game that never got finished. Like it’s just some broken beta game on a computer somewhere. You put on the headset, game’s broken or doesn’t work, you say “fuck this shit” and walk off.

I’m thinking of how SOMA did their story, if you’ve played that game.

I originally thought Caine was spelt cane because he had a cane but the fact that he runs the software and the company building that Pomni runs through has a sign saying C&A makes me think of bible murder man and his brother.

I watched the pilot and I thought it was fine enough, in some ways it feels very baby's first creepy webseries but also does have some pretty charming aspects and you can't ever diss the visual artistry of projects like this. I'd seen some of Gooseworx stuff before and for whatever reason it didn't cross my mind that he was a tranny... I don't know why, "female" creators who mainly represent themselves through their avatars are almost always troons. Whatever, as long as he doesn't insert the fetish shit (they are also always into fetish shit... but maybe that is redundant when describing troons) I'll continue to give the show a chance until it unravels enough to decide if it's worthwhile or just wasted potential.

I really really want this show to succeed, I actually liked the pilot and was a bit of fresh air on what western animation can provide at this point in time, but seeing all of this information makes me worry about the future of this show.

If Gooseworx is intelligent about this, he will keep the weird troon fetish away and focus on making a good plot. But that is a biiig "If".
