I think that anger stems from the fact that society treats ugly/fat women like men. It's not an easy existence, especially when they see how their non ugly/fat friends are treated.
As a man, I 100% treat ugly/fat women worse than I treat actual women, and I treat them far worse than I treat men lol. I go out of my way to avoid being anywhere near them, and I've definitely damaged a fatso's academic careers when I was teaching labs at the university. Pretty women are also just typically nicer, sweeter and less surly. Uggos have a chip on their shoulder because they know that they're going to have a rough time. In a field as people focused as academia - and if you don't think it's people focused you either haven't worked in it, or are bad at it - they really ham(fat ha)string themselves by being the way they are.
