Thermals are great, but it only works if there's a direct line-of-sight. If he bunkers down in the trees, he'll still disappear. A K9 could still smoke him out, if he didn't bug out in a boat or car. This long after the shooting, he's probably long gone now, though.

It's fall. Maples and birch have mostly dropped their leaves and oaks are on the way. Even a small signature could tip off an operator. There are not a ton of natural features common in the Maine woods that could conceal him from the air. His best bet would be a dense thicket of pine or something he prepared. His car is not particularly far from the town he's reported to have lived in. He could have literally run home after he ditched his car.

It will be difficult to find him if he isn't gone. That area is not bumfuck nowhere like up north, but there are plenty of woodlots and I'm sure more than a couple abandoned houses.

Sounds like either echo or a binary trigger.

You can (theoretically) modify any gun to (theoretically) do that (in minecraft). It doesn't even have to (theoretically) be with OEM parts or whatever. There are legal triggers that can (theoretically) give you a faster ROF like binary triggers

Takes about 10 minutes, a coat hanger, and some pliers to make most AR-15s full auto.

I'm thinking the second one, assuming he doesn't pop up somewhere else and start blasting again. Why show your face during the attack if you intend to get away with it? That's typically a strong indicator the shooter has no intention of living to see the consequences of their actions. Cops will probably find him in the morning in an empty house or cabin with a bullet in his head. Hopefully.

Sadly I think it's a coin toss. I would fully expect sucide if this was a terrorist attack ( by that I mean it had some kind of statement) this however is a mental break from the looks of it. The goal might just be to inflict damage for as long as possible.

Given the timeline of the shooting and when neighboring towns/counties began responding, he may have literally pulled over to the side of the road as they sped towards Lewiston and he was leaving. They would have been using 196.

The 3 major papers closest to the shooting: the Portland Press Herald, the Lewiston Sun Journal, and the Boston Globe, have all settled on "at least 16."

Yeah, this is one of those situations where he could pop up in the morning and start shooting up stores in another town when they open. Wouldn't be shocked to see a lot of places in surrounding counties not open today just in case.
