The drama behind this led to the creation of Pacific Anthropomorphics Weekend, AKA PAWCon.

Imagine if 2 had moved in and gone "hey I'm making a new con too, plz come all my little gryphlets" you know that it would have at least gotten 200-300 attendees, and then people would have had to split their money between FOUR California cons ALONE (not to mention Rainfurrest and BLFC!)

Furries may be suspiciously wealthy but in no way can they take a con-sized wallet hit every 2 months on average AND be able to bling-bling around as much as they want.

The problem with the Burned Furs was the usual problem with online movements: a complete and total lack of gatekeeping. Any random asshole could speak as a "representative" of the group. So they started out as mere prudes worried about the fandom's broader image, but it very quickly devolved into gay-bashing, moralist right-wing sperging, false-flagging by spiteful furfags, etcetera. By the time the original group realized the shit they were in, it was far too late to try to turn it around. The message was completely lost already.

On the other hand... looking at how the furry fandom is today it's clear the Burned Furs had a point starting out, even if they couldn't convey it (or act on it) worth a damn. Alas, spergs are gonna sperg and so these guys were shouted out of relevance. The ones that are still around these days have either gone full cranky grognard mode, or embraced the degeneracy and trooned out with the rest of the fandom.

Welcome to reality. Furfags have more or less rejected the very idea of sanity. All the Burned Furs wanted was just not to descend into absolute public degeneracy. They weren't even prudes. They just thought there was a time and a place for perversions, and it wasn't flat out up front public degeneracy at all times.

The problem was - as what happened to Blumrich amply demonstrates - is that the Burned Furs were never actually about any kind of serious moral stance, and for sure not some kind of based, redpilled political movement. It was always really about Eric and his buddies being assblasted that being associated with 'Furry' was going to stop them from getting jobs in Hollywood animation studios, via the legend of Steve Martin showing off porn in his job interviews.

The hangers on came later of course, but it was never a 'pure movement' to begin with.

After the furry fandom reached the internet, the constant stream of new users tended to be teens (predominantly male ofc) who were horny and wanted to eRP. Places like Yiffstar's chat and Furcadia helped perpetuate this massively. That there were little barriers in place to access furry porn back then (google image search didn't have great safe mode put in back then so looking up meowth would land you in Kanada's TF Central website) helped get more and more kids into the furry fandom at a young age.

Now an adult, they think it's okay to talk to young kids about porn because they too were once a young boy looking for shit to jerk off to. As if it's totally okay to do it because an adult talked to them as a kid. There are the sick fucks that straight up want to groom children but there are the social retards who don't realize that they're doing something really fucked up. Cuz they went through it and they turned out fine right?

And the furry community is too accepting so you end up with the pedophiles.

Anyone letting minors into their discord that hosts nsfw content may as well be a pedophile. There's no excuses for you wanting to talk to minors.

If you want a rational explanation as why it is like this, consider the following. We, as a species, spent quite some time when an average lifespan was around 30 years. Not procreating till 18 would've get us all evolution'd. 18 as an age of concent is a modern invention for modern circumstances. That's a good thing, considering an overall complexity of our age. 18 is an arbitrary age, by which it is expected of an average human being to develop at least half a brain. The ones who intentionally go younger than that I tend to categorize into two types: 1. actual pedophiles, who were fucked-up from the birth 2. wankers, who might've been semi-normal, but managed to spook themselves into thinking that they are one; ones who can't find themselves a partner of age and think that going younger is the solution also go here. And furries harbor a lot of the 2-nd types. While those are overall less likely to go out and actually offend, as I believe, there are shittonn of them, and every advancement in media technology makes it easier for them to proliferate. And you know what's the worst thing in this whole mess, at least for me? I can't imagine any solutions to this that are both efficient and will not require to implement some authoritarian means that will bite people like us in the ass later down the line.
