Edit: A lot of articles calling this an accident. Nobody gets kicked in the neck accidentally.

Police have been using them for decades, the MP5 SD was a very popular item with well funded police departments that had some kind of "response team", the idea was you could very easily distinguish enemy fire VS friendly fire. I've never fired an unsupressed firearm indoors but it is fucking loud, afterwards you cannot hear someone creeping around a corner/yelling for help/surrendering etc etc etc
