Give me all the top hats but fuck Kim and Dalton too. CPS in Arkansas (like most places) is overworked and understaffed. They triage cases where rats are chewing on the baby (wish I could forget that) with things like Kim. The hotline goes through the AR State Police Crimes Against Children Division. From there it is investigated, and can be a criminal issue or just a shit parent issue (w/o rising to the level of criminal neglect). To compound it all, the complaint is only as good as the report — so if a well-meaning tard neighbor files a complaint like “They ain’t done doing right by that baby,” it probably won’t get investigated (even if the neighbor is trying to report a serious issue). To further complicate things, people try to weaponise the system, so they will file false or exaggerated claims; if it’s cogent, and actually concerning, then it’s investigated — which further strains the system. The best results come when whatever horror gets told (sometimes just in passing) to law enforcement; mandatory reporter, can usually dig deeper, and the reports are taken more seriously (if for no other reason than they omit phrases like “done did,). If a particular cop is pissed enough, tender hearted towards kids, they may follow up on it until shit happens (even if they have to ultimately go into court on their day off to testify about the child’s hellish life).
As a side note, probably the worst (from a reporting POV) is doing everything right in terms of hotlining suspicions, following up, and the mom’s boyfriend hurts or kills the kid before anything happens because it’s not clear cut enough to press charges at the outset. It’s a special, hellish, horrific torment that will drive a person out of public service and into a lifetime of therapy, what-ifs, and overprotective parenting.
I sincerely hope Aidean is removed, because I don’t know if I can handle the trajectory this kid’s life is on.
