Tokyo is only unusually expensive by Japan standards. Current exchange rate makes Japan probably the cheapest first world destination. You can get a decent room for under $150 a night, even less if you're willing to shop around. You can easily get by on like $30 a day per person for a food budget. I don't know how long these last but $5k is imo a reasonable budget for a 2 week trip to Japan if you're not buying a lot of plastic trash or visiting whores. You could slum it up and go lower too.

So I guess the other $5k is him paying for a group of people that will tolerate him and a retard handler. You can't even really make the argument that a translator is valuable anymore because phone apps and the general improvement in Japanese zoomer engrish have made it much easier on that end. Couple of weeks of learning basics will easily get you where you need to be, it's not like Europe where anyone worth talking to under the age of 50 speaks English but unless you're going out in the sticks everyone in service industries has at least some experience dealing with foreigners.

Not as expensive as people say it is. Yes rent can be high. Yes some of the things you buy can be expensive. But for the most part, I don't find prices over there to be more than they are here.
