Why is the death penalty not on the table for prison sentences that would clearly exceed the prisoner's natural life? He should be hanged from the gallows for this, not kept in a cell until everyone forgets what he did so they can let him out to enjoy his golden years.

Jeffrey Skilling of Enron was sentenced to 24 years and got out after serving only 12. People lost their life savings and killed themselves in the wake of that.

Bankman made the mistake of witness tampering though. That's the only variable I can see where harsher measures might apply. Courts really hate that kind of thing.
