Here's a clip of Lowtax having a moment of... well, I can't say lucidity or sobriety, but perhaps self-awareness.

This was one of his multiple "meat streams", where he aimed to raise 260 bucks by eating 26 meat sticks on camera for $10 apiece. As you can see, this one was pretty successful, as there are only two meat sticks left. October 28, 2021, two weeks before his suicide.

I really wonder if had the drama with Logan never occurred would Rich still have decided to bite the bullet a year later. If he still just had one tiny safety net to fall back on, I think he would have decided to just pay the court order and continue trying new things.

I really do think that the proximal and most immediate reason Lowtax did the deed was because the divorce ruling definitively denied him his hoped-for "vindication" and also, at the same time, imposed a debt upon him that he was unable to pay. IMO Lowtax was already suicidal before that, but the divorce ruling humiliated him and portended a Poortax arc he didn't want to deal with.

The timing isn't really that surprising; suicidal gestures are frequently impulsive choices. The victim "prepares" for their suicide "just in case things get much worse", and then they hit that final straw that breaks the camels' back (no pun intended) and they 41% with a minimum of critical thinking about what they are doing.

You're right of course, but that was the only way Lowtax was able to communicate. I wouldn't be surprised if he even talked to judges the same way during his divorce proceedings, with his squeaky faggot voice and zany humor.

The zany random access humor stuff was a way for Lowtax to disguise his own anger, even from himself. By depicting himself as an angry Internet insult comic, and also sometimes adopting a persona that was allowed to be a cranky old man, Lowtax could blow off steam without his outbursts causing damage to his real-life relationships. Lowtax wanted royalties from Notch not for his own ideas - but for ideas given for free by members of his forum. "How dare you possibly steal from these forum members - when I'm already stealing from them?". Lowtax genuinely felt entitled to a share of other people's projects - despite doing 0 work himself - if the person was at any point a SA poster. He seriously thought that SA was so important that people would just arrange their lives around it and never move past it. He was constantly shocked when people that left SA wouldn't just kill themselves but instead would start projects (Yahzee, 4chan, YOGSCAST, Mega64) and expand them. Even worse, they never even thought of kicking money to a multi millionaire just for existing on a website.

Not to mention that Minecraft was already in beta well before any of this and Notch mainly used SA and 4chan for QA testing/free localization.

This is not accurate. The earliest pre-alpha version of Minecraft was May 2009, and goons were already playing it in June. I looked this up in archives, since I wanted to learn more about why the fuck Lowtax would feel entitled to anything related to Minecraft. (That question went unanswered, or rather, the answer is simply "Lowtax")
