The Arab public already hated our guts though, so this isn't quite the own you think it is. Nothing has particularly changed there. Standing back and letting Khomenei take down the Shah didn't magically get Iran to start liking us, so I'd say capitulating here and disavowing Israel won't work either.

The US efforts since the 90's to radicalize Muslim populations into Wahhabism/Salafism has been useful in destablizing countries while also providing the US with a new militant proxy tool. Why do you think China had to arrest and re-educate the radical Uyghers? Because the US was trying to do the same thing they did with ISIS. Radicalize moderate Muslim populations.
