Starman is also wrong here: Apollo 1 did not involve a Saturn V in any way. It was a failure in the command module, which was mated to a Saturn IB. As @AnOminous observed previously, Saturn had nothing to do with the accident.
In this case, North American, the contractor for the command module, was strongly against a test with humans in a 1+ atm pure oxygen atmosphere. That situation was insanely dangerous and it was incredibly foolish of NASA to sanction it. Sheet steel will burn like cardboard in those conditions.
