On the Bundy shit, I could swear I remember Bundy being in the news before the actual standoff as an Obama critic in some measure but I might be misremembering. That was a very eye opening incident though and probably still a sore topic of discussion around glowing water coolers.

One thing I noticed about Bundy, from watching extended interviews with him. First off, he's less right wing than many of the posters here, including myself. Some of it is probably an artifact of him being a Boomer, but he seems genuinely sympathetic towards left-wing groups with nominally anti-establishment positions (which most of us, including myself think is mostly kayfabe). I also noticed he incorporated some tactics common among the left-wing. First was, during the standoff, he made sure that unarmed people that would be bad PR if shot by the government were mixed in among the armed defenders. He also made it a media spectacle, which meant that cameras were constantly filming somewhere, hampering the chance of another Waco. Finally, once he had a tactical victory during the standoff, he successfully resorted to lawfare, which is how you gain strategic wins.

I'm not much read up on law, but I'd like to see the hows and whoms of how he ran his legal defense, I think it could be illuminating.

And it worked to get acquittals on most of the charges, and the juries hung on most of the rest. Then it was revealead the government was doing Brady violations and the rest of the charges were thrown out with prejudice

I didn't move up here to Nowhere, Oregon until the Trump years but according to the locals during the Obama years there were near-daily protests outside the local Bureau of Land Management building. "Fuck the Feds" was definitely the mood out in these nowhere places. Things are quieter for sure these days, but definitely not in any sort of pleasant way.

The dead grass just continuously builds up and becomes a wildfire hazard, with so much tinder the wildfire outright scorches the land so harshly that the native species of foliage dies and invasive ones remain, this begins the process of desertification and dust storms as nothing is binding the soil together, which immediately blows away and it just becomes lifeless dirt that can't retain water. Thus the endangered species fair even worse. With grazing animals they prevent the grass from growing too tall, eat it, compact seeds into a dense ball of fertilizer as they shit it back out and the other cows will stomp it into the ground when walking around. Its beneficial provided the ranchers keep the herd moving. If the rancher just keeps them in the same spot they'll destroy the land for sure.

I think the Bundy herd in 2014 had about 500 cattle. That isn't an insignificant amount, but it's a relatively small amount.
