Most of the parish and priests that taught my school when I was growing up didn’t enforce the idea that suicide was necessarily a thing that gets you sent to hell. They do believe in science and will look at the bigger picture that if a person was a good Christian and genuinely great they can still go to heaven even if they killed themselves if they were suffering from mental illness, tragic life events that pushed them over the brink, or were in agonising physical pain and chose euthanasia rather than endure the torture.

In the Catechism of the Catholic Church 2283, it says that maybe they might go to Hell or not. God's Divine Mercy might have saved them in the end. As such, the Church prays for all victims of suicide because we just can't know what happened to them exactly and we always hope for the best.
