Plagued Consoomers / Consoomer Culture - Because if it has a recogniseable brand on it, I’d buy it!

this absolutely feels like a cope article written by people who not only hate their own parents, but older people and people they consider """"boomers"""" (aka 'older than me and LE BAD') as a whole
Yea, besides if your parents are 94yo like that guy then odds are you're the boomer. The oldest boomers AFAIK still have to hit 80.
This doesn't seem like minimalism as much as companies have successfully convinced younger generations that furniture should be as cheap and disposable and so as endlessly replaceable as fast fashion.
Nah price is a problem too, and quality furniture was never cheap. Even back in the day it was considered an investment because you couldn't just buy a new armoire on a whim. That's why intergenerational furniture was a thing, it was part culture and part necessity.

But nowadays? I recently wanted to get an actual table made of real wood, and even one that was made of fancy plywood would cost me enough to furnish an entire studio apartment. High prices of quality furniture lead to lower demands which leads to lower production and higher prices, which is why particle board shit from ikea and others sells so well.

The middle class is dying, its that simple.

I wanted a real wood kitchen table a few years ago and literally had to have one custom made by a local carpenter. And what I wanted was nothing special - solid oak table with 4 chairs.

Have "make up declutter videos" been talked about? I think they fit in this thread perfectly. Obviously it's good to get rid of whatever dried out mascara you have or give a friend a lipstick you don't use anymore but in many of these videos it's obvious that some of these ladies are throwing away pounds of makeup just so that they can keep buying more :geek:

300 lipsticks is just... wow.

And 70 concealers is even crazier . She gets rid of almost half but that's still an enormous amount.

This is also mind boggling lol... unlike lipstick blushes don't even come in that many colors or finishes...

To be fair, makeup influencers with a decent following get sent free makeup to review, and a lot of those PR packages will contain every single shade of whatever product they’re looking to advertise. So they likely didn’t buy a lot of this stuff.

Yeah even the most aggressive pound cakers on the face shouldn't have 70+ concealers. I can definitely see them without PR packages having that many blushes, eyeshadows, mascaras, etc though. I've known women like that and they don't even make youtube videos.

I sold a sealed limited edition (1000 copies) vinyl and CD box set on eBay to a buyer from the US a few years back. Each set contained a personally signed certificate of authenticity by the artist and numbered 1 through 1000. Having assumed the buyer would rip open the set on receipt and out of curiosity, I emailed the buyer to ask if he'd let me know the number of the box set, particularly as I purchased it within minutes of receiving the sales email from the online store.

His response, although polite, was that he was a collector but had no intention of opening the item and his only interest was hoarding a sealed box. He paid a lot of money for a sealed collection and I was happy for him, but either way I didn't really get it.

With buyers like that it'd be insanely easy to sell a bootleg. They'd never know because they'd never open it.

What's the best DAP? "What's a DAP?" I hear you ask. It's a Digital Audio Player, or an "MP3 player" to us mere mortals.
There's people out there willing to spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on the best Digital Audio Player.
Feast your eyes on this review of someone reviewing a 3000$ mp3 player: https://www.richardsumilang.com/posts/electronics/sony/nw-wm1z-review/
It's sleek, it's top notch, how many other devices do you have that are gold plated copper? It's hefty (~1 pound), and it has a leather backing which gives you a warm feeling in the hand. And maybe over the years it will acquire a nice petina (sic).
I could go on, but I'm not sure I need to.

Jeez. I just want something I can take running without having to strap my phone to my arm.

Eh. Really if you just have a few buddies like I did, it isn't much of a issue to get a game started.
And it's cheaper than ever honestly.

People forget how pricey quality furniture always has been. Go look at 80s pricing, before particle board shit. A good, large bookcase was $2500, so like 7k after inflation.

The issue isn't price for me on that front. It's that all of my friends are professional adults with very small children or high school aged children they're very invested in. Doesn't leave a lot of room for a regular campaign.
You're overthinking it. Scheduling issues are way less of a problem with video chat. My group has varied schedules so it's just easier to play via Zoom. Nobody has to host or travel, etc.

Makes it way easier.

Not gonna lie I legit hate playing online. I want you know, a nice night eating snacks, maybe having a shitty mixed drink, and actually seeing people I enjoy in person. I genuinely hate how online everything is now.

I have no idea why this market even exists with shit like this or how Sony sells a Walkman for $1,200 new. It's really ironic that Apple of all people made a better product close to 15 years ago--iPod Classic 160 GB--and sold it at a reasonable price, far cheaper than these nu-Walkmen or that one expensive-ass MP3 player Neil Young tried to sell a few years ago. All I want is a decently functional MP3 player with a fuckton of space, has a port for my headphones/earbuds, and is comfortable to run with. You'd think there'd be a product out there like that, especially one with a brand name as famous as the Walkman, but apparently a Walkman in this day and age is for rich hipster consoomers only.

Oh, I feel you. But playing beats not playing. If I had to wait for everyone to be free, in state and having time to travel I would get to play once or twice a year. I play with the same friends monthly via zoom. It beats not playing.

Even a mid-end android phone and a good DAC dongle (which can be had for less than $50) plus a 1TB microSD will give you more capacity than any old ipod had, with FLAC support and no lag because its all solid-state. And if you want to go wireless you can use LDAC or aptX which blows SBC and AAC out of the water.

Those DAPs you see are just consoom bait for wannabe audiophiles.

Antique stores are your friend. That and the Amish stores.

I've never found old furniture on those stores that wasn't all beaten up and needing restoration, and when its in good shape it costs as much as a new one.

Gays ruined that market, they overpay for anything.
Gotta search at the legit places, not the "antique stores" that sell 90s Walmart trinkets.

Some have a few dents and dings but they're serviceable, and look far nicer than what's available today

I already told my fiance that when we have kids, all of our kids stuff is coming from the Amish or the antique place.

My rat cage, which was top of the line when I bought it fifteen years ago, has a surface rust problem that is slowly spreading. It's a common problem with rat cages because rat urine is very corrosive. All the cage needs is to be sand blasted and powder coated, and it'll be good for another fifteen years.

Well, it's going to be much cheaper just to replace the cage entirely. I don't want to do that though, this cage is no longer being manufactured and the current top of the line cage just isn't that great. It's really pissing me off. The cage is looking pretty manky even though it is perfectly sound. I'm trying to find someone who could sandblast it for cheap but I'm not having any luck. This is too good a cage to just replace with a nicer looking but lower quality one.
