The story of a champion London, Ont., powerlifter has been removed from a months-long exhibit at Museum London amid controversy over her comments about transgender athletes.

Team Canada member April Hutchinson was among more than 70 Londoners taking part in the exhibit, Resilient London: Meet Your Neighbours, which launched in October and runs until May, and details each participant's experience overcoming adversity.

Hutchinson has been a vocal critic of a trans inclusion policy adopted by the Canadian Powerlifting Union (CPU) that said athletes could participate "in their expressed and identified gender identity" at recreational and competitive levels, saying it's unfair to cisgender women.

She shared her story of using powerlifting as a way to overcome alcohol addiction. It was profiled last year in the London Free Press and more recently in Gameday London.

She believes she has been removed from the exhibit because of her stance on trans athletes in sports.

In a statement to CBC News, Museum London's head of marketing and development, Linda O'Connor, said the decision to conclude Hutchinson's participation in the project was made "for reasons we have shared directly with April Hutchinson."

"We have no further comment on this. We take seriously our responsibility to uphold our values, promote inclusion and ensure dignity for our team, our contributors, and our audiences."

Hutchinson became involved with the exhibit last year. When she was removed, Museum London told her it was because her views don't "go along with their gender ideology," she told CBC News.

"I'm highly disappointed and very hurt. My exhibit was me telling the whole world my personal struggle with alcoholism, and how I beat that and I became a Team Canada powerlifter…. It had nothing to do at all with transgenders."

Earlier this month, Hutchinson was given a two-year suspension by the CPU that she said she's appealing.

The governing body has since released a newer policy that includes eligibility rules for transgender or gender-diverse athletes looking to participate at a competitive level.

Hutchinson's activism has led to appearances with right-wing media outlets and personalities, including Piers Morgan, Rebel Media and Tucker Carlson.

Those opposed to trans women competing in female categories argue the retained advantages of having gone through male puberty is unfair. Those in support say inclusion is most important, and that people should be allowed to compete in the gender category they choose.

The issue came to a head over the summer when Anne Andres, a powerlifter who identifies as transgender, won first place and broke a women's powerlifting record at the Western Canadian Powerlifting & Bench Press Championships.

Hutchinson has been highly critical of Andres on social media. In August, she wrote on X that it was "disgusting that my federation condones this. Anne holds every record in HIS category... More worried about being sued by the minority than protecting biological women...SICK."

Appearing on Morgan's show last month, Hutchinson said she had been threatened with suspension by the CPU for her comments about Andres.

Still, she told CBC News those views should not exclude her from the Museum London exhibit.

"I never have incited hate. I have nothing against transgenders at all, it's not to do with that. It's about fairness and sports," Hutchinson said.

Amid the controversy, CPU president Shane Martin announced his resignation last week.

CBC News reached out to CPU for comment, but did not receive a response.

does anybody really care about these "person gets removed from thing due to twitter post" stories anymore? it feels excruciatingly routine at this point. it's even an arguably smart PR move, whatever exposure her career may have gotten due to being in some cringe museum exhibit is going to be blown out of the water by the attention she gets from this gay non-controversy. TTD, TJD, TND, etc

Look you either go all in or not at all they are going to vilify you either way so just accept the truth you have come to and speak it: Troons and pooners are fringe freaks who are either mentally ill or know they are wrong and can only get off by forcing everyone else to conform to their desired reality.

They are going to flay you either way might as well go out with integrity.

Believing that mentally ill men are women, or even that it's OKAY to LET them believe it is how we got to this point.

"I have nothing against transgenders at all"

Then you're stupid. They should be forced to see psychiatrists that will disabuse them of their delusions in the same way we force the more dangerous schizos to take their meds so they don't stab children because the voices in their head told them to because it was Tuesday.

Unfortunately the psychiatric community is fully onboard with the insanity. They tend to be at the forefront of atrocity.

They think they're fucking over Athletes, Academics, Writers, Movie directors and Scientists with this sort of shit when the truth is that they're only devaluating Medals, Certificates, Awards, Prizes and Accolades as it's becoming clearer and clearer that obtaining one is less about talent and more about being adequately aligned to the correct people and ideas.

This "you voted for this" shit is really gay and hypocritical, if it's up for a vote then it's your fault too.
You just got done screeching about how every man woman and child in Gaza needs to be bombed by Israel because they are the god's chosen and always in the right. I don't think you know what the word "hypocritical" is
Also, I am right(as I always am)

Said the Hamas meme avatar. It's funny because I don't ever recall calling Israel "God's chosen" but why would I ever expect honesty from a filthy Muslim? Yet you people wonder why the world hates you.

You can't be hypocritical across two unrelated subject matters, moron.

Amid the controversy, CPU president Shane Martin announced his resignation last week.

President of Canada's powerlifting body has resigned less than a week after suspending a female athlete for criticizing a record-breaking transgender rival.

Shane Martin, Canadian Powerlifting Union (CPU) president, submitted his letter of resignation on Sunday, November 12.

'This position has become something I no longer recognize and I am not the one to lead this organization,' he said in his resignation.

His decision came just days after the organization suspended powerlifter April Hutchinson for an appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored in August where she remarked on the 'physical advantages that a male has over a female.'

Hutchinson told DailyMail.com of Martin's resignation, 'Anyone especially a federation leader that does not protect women and ensure fairness in sport should rightfully so resign.'

She began powerlifting four years ago, and said she started her campaigning against transgender athletes' inclusion in biological female categories around a year ago.

Despite being warned almost immediately she would be banned for her stance, she said she continued speaking out for the past year because, essentially, 'we have no policy at all to protect women and girls in sports.'

After slating the transgender athlete on TV, Hutchinson became the focus of an ethics investigation by the governing body, which she tweeted the results of.

'I now face a two-year ban by the CPU for speaking publicly about the unfairness of biological males being allowed to taunt female competitors and loot their winnings,' Hutchinson said.

'Apparently, I have failed in my gender-role duties as “supporting actress” in the horror show that is my #sport right now.

'This... Even though a 13-page letter was sent to the CPU in October thoroughly debunking all accusations. Obviously, someone had to pay the price for the IPF forcing CPU to be more female-friendly.

'Let this be a lesson to all female athletes to shut-up and put-up with #SexDiscrimination. In truth, my fight does not stop here.'

Hutchinson told DailyMail.com she plans to appeal the decision by the union to suspend her.

She shared her frustration in a fiery opinion piece for DailyMail.com where she pleaded for fairness in the sport and slammed trans competitor Anne Andres for mocking her female rivals as 'weak.'

She said Andres was 'taking to social media to mock females, to belittle us as weak, to rub it in our faces.'

At one point Andres even characterized a female rival as having 'little T-Rex arms'.

She said that when Andres won another contest, watching her put a stuffed toy T-Rex on the podium appeared particularly pointed - especially as she noted that the only two others on the podium were only there as every other competitor had dropped out.

Hutchinson said she was threatened with a suspension when she complained too, but said she won't stop her campaigning.

'Andres has been allowed to compete, take the podium in place of a biological woman and set national records that may never be broken,' she concluded.

'Everyone knows this is unethical. But the federation has been too cowardly to do anything because the Canadian government protects "gender identity" from discrimination, alongside race, gender and sexual orientation,' she said.

'As a result, the rights of biological women are trampled. Women must demand fairness, but even that is not enough.'

In August, Andres set a new Canadian woman's national record at the CPU National Championships – which is also an unofficial women's world record.

Andres lifted a total 597.5kg across the squat, bench and deadlift disciplines - 200kg more than her closest opponent, SuJan Gill.

Following Andres sweep, the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) issued the CPU with an ultimatum to align with the international governing body's rules on transgender competitors after trans competitor Anne Andres trounced her female competitors.

IPF rules state that competitors must prove their gender identity with government-issued ID and disclose their testosterone levels, mirroring similar policies by international sports governing bodies.

Martin said in his resignation adjusting to these rules is not what he signed up for and somebody else would be better suited for the job.

'I wanted to focus on increasing budgets for refereeing and coaching, but the last year has shifted into something I can no longer do,' Martin said.

Hutchinson believes the policy is 'very strict' to get through.

'It's protecting women. The IPF have stepped in. They don't believe in discrimination against women, and it's not fair, so this policy is a step in the right direction for women and girls and sports,' she said.

'Right now, that means that Anne cannot lift. [She] will have to apply and go through all the testing, get all the medical documentation - it could take years.'

Ladies, you voted for this. I have absolutely no sympathy, I hope every gold medal of yours is broken by a roided out dude in a pink leotard
Men, you created this. Every hormone, ideology and clinic was synthesized, created, and opened by men, and nearly all paraphilias are held by men, so I hope the degeneracy you fostered was worth it to "own the women".

To teenage athletes or women like Riley Gaines, those mean scholarships and money to help them through school. She has testified other athletes were threatened with suspension and humiliation if they ever spoke out. That happened with the volleyball girl getting hit in the face, and it happened here.

Pretty sure Andres here had his own record broken by the coach who identified as a woman for that lift and he got fucking assmad.

I think that about a lot of these stories, in fact a lot of the news in general. Its like a churn that just keeps getting shit thrown into it, people playing their games, nothing really changing, just an endless whirlpool of stuff that is said.

I think its all an incestuous business.

Except they did vote for this. They campaigned for this and voted for this, all the while men were trying to tell them that it's a terrible idea.
This is literally a problem that was created by and large by women.
