Military Stolen Valor - Get the glory, admiration and grift. It's just an Amazon uniform order away.

A lot of guys fo embellish, because sometimes it does feel like that's the truth. One of my sergeants got shot at with a 9mm in the chest but the story he tells is a fucking slug. He's obviously lying but I'm sure at the time it felt like a shotgun. We call them seastories for a reason
Yeah, which is why I think we shouldn't focus on that and more on stuff like the extrajudicial killing of Americans or being the first master of the Gun Kata.

I was specifically thinking of people from South and Central America, which seems insane but it happens a lot.
Go for it, no worries. Post whatever you have. That's why I felt reluctant in adding people to the list before consulting. If it's worthy of being a Stolen Valor, I'll post their names and info in the list and we can judge this together. Tomorrow and in the coming days, I'll edit a lot of the original OP.

It's one thing to say, "We were fighting against 50 guys!" When it was really 20, etc, okay fair enough, you are telling a war story. But Kyle lied PUBLICLY, IN A BOOK about having an extra silver star, for example. There's no confusion there. Soldiers don't misremember that. It's the third-highest military decoration for valor, and there is a write-up from your superiors recommending you and usually a commendation ceremony. It's not like they just send you one in the mail in an envelope. The fact that he had to lie about having two when he already had one is frankly puzzling. Besides the myriad of things AeroGavin said about which Kyle lied.

And these Stolen Valor people never say "I drove a truck in Afghanistan" or "I was a CBRR"
I have always found that hilarious to hear. After another "operator" spewed his crap, my co-worker pointed out that there are more special ops people than electricians like him. So SpecOps asks "you ever been under fire?" My buddy looks him full in the face and explains how he got his Bronze Star in Afghanistan by keeping a generator running while under enemy fire. Specs knew he had been caught out and slinked away.

A complicated guy, Kyle did do serious work but still felt the need to embellish to frankly embarrassing degrees.
Stating the obvious, I think Kyle had serious mental issues as a result of his service. Without knowing the details of his wilder claims, I think it's entirely possible he genuinely believed his stories actually happened; that is, he fantasized these things and they became memories in a kind of garbled act of internal translation. Or I'd like to think so. I deeply respect Kyle's very real, provable accomplishments.

I can't really go into Service-related topics on this forum because it's too revealing, but deeply appreciate a Stolen Valor thread. These phony, craven bastards really should be exposed. There's nothing lower.

Quoted from the VolunteersForUkraine thread, the Canadian Faggot I mentioned earlier, this is from when he got caught, bu there were plenty of tweets before, I remember him claiming they removed the plates on their body armor to "travel lighter" or some shit, he said that in response to someone pointing out his plate carrier was too thin to be real.
CanadianUkrain1 has been mentioned in these pages before as a "volunteer" serving in Ukraine posting questionable tales on social media while raising a ton of money for himself.

Well yesterday he decided to post some pics of his gear:

... which was very quickly exposed as all airsoft and very badly done. The mags taped together aren't even the same caliber for instance. That's an airsoft rifle.

Better rundowns here with lots of pics:

Well, it finally happened.

We did it Reddit!

Without turning this post into navel gazing speculation on Kyle's character or motivation, I wish he was still around. His perspective on his relationship with fame and Survivor's Guilt would be very informative.

As far as I personally see and understand the Stolen Valor is a mostly american thing. Some countries have direct laws against it. Some treat it as fraud. And in some countries being caught doing that might bring you the health problems, streaming from people ambushing and beating you.
Honestly I'm surprised USA doesn't simply treat it as fraud. The very definition of fraud is to lie to get something.

Nah, it's not American at all. Lying about your service for local admiration has always been a thing. The main issue is that in America, there's an infestation of scammers and grifters who take advantage of the immense pool of money dedicated to veterans to do actual fraud for LOTS of money. Sarah Cavanaugh got a quarter of a million bucks. Those amounts just aren't there in other countries. But worldwide, there's never been a shortage of clowns who buy a uniform and then lie to everyone with their "war stories".

Hell, it's not even a military thing. A dude was known for going in medical scrubs to different food places near hospitals and "forgetting his wallet in the ICU" and then people would either pay for him or take him at his word he'd come back and pay. Of course, he wasn't medical personnel. And now that I think about it, it must also happen with firemen and police a lot.

There's a ton of "police impersonator" videos on YouTube, and we have one cow here Jeremy Dewitte, the funeral escort and sex offender, who is pretty famous for that.

Agreed. I'm not going to fault someone for saying / remembering he was shot with a 12-gauge when it was "merely" 9mm. Being scared as shit will do things to your memories.
I knew a guy who drove mules for the Italian Army in World War I. He was about 12. He described having a mule tail "shot out of his hand" by a random bullet; I'll bet the tail was clipped by shrapnel and he jumped out of his skin. If you think he;s a liar, fuck you.

This thread has great potential OP!

The venn diagram for stolen valor types and people who exhibit lolcow traits is a circle.

My personal view is that we should include people who did legitimately serve but have embellished or outright lied about their service. In Don's videos you see a lot of people who had a few years of service with middling to lousy service records claiming all sorts of stuff. Oftentimes it's a way to reconcile any guilt over a lousy few years in the military scrubbing toilets or whatever.

A really good example that maybe deserves a spot in the OP is Jonathan "Jack" Idema. His whole charade is pretty wild. Reminds me of Jace Connors but real.
