So as that is how would people join the server and wouldn't that get rid of one of the issues of having a bunch of random retards join and fuck it up since it is not on the big list when you first open SS14

The Kiwi server going on the main browser in BYOND was what killed it anyway, honestly. There was always a bit of a shitter problem, but going public (Past it being on the website) made it literally lawless. I've not played SS13 in years for numerous reasons, but I can still safely say I enjoyed the short amount of time I played on Kiwistation, it was one of my favourites.

Back when the Station had its own subforum, it was even good for finding lolcows just by laughing at the ban appeals/requests.

not just any developer, but the guy who lead the project in the first place for a good while, although i have no idea if he started the revival of it from goon or is still leading it.
this guy was also a codermin on /vg/ but quit about a month ago, not sure why really. all i remember about him is being yet another filthy vox player on there.

Everyone knows the worst shitters always flock to the one server they haven't been banned from yet. I still maintain that was one of the most retarded decisions made.

I was thinking about just us starting a SS13 server on this thread but not listing it on the server browser so we don’t attract degens. Would /tg/ SS13 be a better platform or SS14? Its not like one company controls all the servers.

/tg/ now but 14 looks like it has potential when it gets more features.

Do you mean 2016 /tg/ or current day /tg/? Because the latter is a nightmare.

The space background is fine but the new sprites are ugly. They've dumbed down Medical and Research. The tasers now have a retarded stun meter so criminals can run around ad infinitum. You know have to buy the shuttle you use to escape, although this might have been in old /tg/. Don't forget about their stupid mood system too.

Oh, also your internal organs die if you smoke too much or eat a bit of unprepared food for no reason.

*cough* Goonstation (CC 3.0) or interbay (Has Matt ever open sourced 2/3?) if you want a BYOND based one that's good. Go for good if you hate GPL 3 / AGPL license shenanigans
Bay if you are nofuns. /vg/ to kill your framerate. Citadel (?) if you want fps becuase they moved atmos to a program outside of BYOND. Lifeweb if you like grimdark (and can get the code). Ashen sky for the STALKER experience (also closed source). /tg/ if you like FPS deathmatch like gameplay.
V.O.R.E if you want ERP, furries, and vore.

Lifeweb is invite only with a discord. Mainly because the dev is a drunk slav (Closed source "loophole") and also because of drama. 2016 or before BYOND accounts get auto approved. They are a branch fork off an archaic version of either 4473 or /tg/ GPLv3 before the APGL switch bullshit /tg/ did (and then sued people over irl).

Said drama was an incident where someone raped a "child" in game and the admin team was like "Well that's an IC issue sooooo".

Technically I think I could (Been a long time since 2015). My account(s) date waaay back before 2016 and I played it when Lifeweb first came out, but I have no desire to be possibly traced back no matter how clean I think my OPSEC is.
You could just pay Randy $15 (that might be a sanction violation now though lol) if that's still a thing.

It's was okay when I tried it when it first came out, the rules are loose much like the second era (2008-2010/2016 if I'm being generous) of SS13. You won't fit in unless you're really into heavy RP. The gameplay is based of Luna baystation (GPL 2 I think) and is extremely different from any other SS13 branch. For example:
  1. You can't take stuff out of backpack before moving backpack to hand first.
  2. Multi-Z combat and view.
  3. Thirst/hunger/shit/piss/vices (think darkest dungeon "quirks") are tied into actual mechanics that will affect you significantly*
  4. ERP is a tied to roles in game*
  5. There are minimal admins and rules: IC stays IC, no multikey, and excommunication is a IRL ckey tied ban (I think was a 1 month ban?)
  6. Integration of currency and jobs is far greater than SS13**
  7. No "fun" (like /tg/ penis inspection day retardation) allowed.
The dev has my respect enough for being insane enough to keep this server going since 2012, but also deserves a thread for his insanity like the STALKER server original dev.

*The "lifeweb is pedophiles" statement comes from the fact that children can be raped in this game and there used to be a quirk called pedophillia. There's still no rule against it but you'll be lynched most likely (like IRL). Also, prostitute is a role in game.

The guys in charge of keeping the fortress powered are a nod to the name "Lifeweb", you power the map by literally killing/abducting people
Non spoiler instance: The baron pays the food merchant, who pays the the farmers. If one sets the price too high as a food merchant the non farmers will have you hung. If you set too low the Baron doesn't get enough tax revenue. Automatically deducted when purchasing.

I switched to linux long ago and the one and only thing I cannot get working is SS13.
Everything else, every, single.. thing... Has a solution through wine. Not byond! TGUI requires IE11 :^)
/VG/station really is a great server too, and really the last, oweing soley to the fact that troons are afraid of 4chan.
I did have a good setup with a VM using Qemu, it works well that way! But it feels dirty having windows on my machine, and is the soley reason to have a VM at all.

I always wonder if someone out there happens to know something I don't, but really the truth is Byond is old, gay and no one gives a shit.
