The mother of the hulking Florida teen who beat his female teacher unconscious over a Nintendo Switch video game claimed prison time would be a “death sentence” for her convicted son.

Leanne Depa pleaded for leniency for the now-18-year-old Brendan Depa, who faces up to 30 years behind bars for slamming Matanzas High School paraprofessional Joan Naydich to the floor before kicking and punching her in the back and head more than a dozen times.

In her first public appearance since the February beatdown, the grieving mother Wednesday begged Naydich to request that the 6-foot-6 teenager be handed a lighter punishment.

“I am so sorry for what my son did and nobody should ever have to go through that,” Leanna Depa said on an appearance on NewsNation’s “Banfield” through tears.

“But at the same time, please consider that my son has had a hard life and he’s gone through so much trauma in his life. He has autism. Please show mercy to him.”

Brendan Depa pleaded guilty last month to beating Naydich over the video game when he was just 17, leaving her with five broken ribs, hearing loss and what she claims are ongoing cognitive problems.

The disturbing incident — and teachers’ futile attempts to stop the attack — was captured on the school’s surveillance footage.

Naydich has previously told NewsNation that she wants her attacker sentenced to the maximum of 30 years behind bars.

“I feel like if he gets sentenced to prison, it’s a death sentence for him. He’s scared. And to have your child call and cry and say, ‘I don’t want to die’ — it’s awful,” Leanne Depa said.

The mourning mom blamed a laundry list of mental disabilities and a history of childhood trauma for her son’s behavior — and questioned why he was even permitted inside the Florida public school.

Brendan Depa — who grapples with severe autism, ADHD, oppositional defiance disorder and reactive explosive disorder — was placed in the school by his intensive behavioral group home despite his time at an autism behavioral hospital just two years earlier, she said.

“I had always homeschooled him because he didn’t handle the school environment. I asked the group home, ‘Did he have to go to public school? Could he not do school online?’ And I was assured by them that all of their clients went to public school,” Leanne Depa said.

“I never thought he belonged in public school. I didn’t have a choice.”

Leanne Depa added that he should have never been near the Nintendo Switch during school hours and that a crisis team is typically called before professionals take the game away.

Naydich said she had never taken the game away from the teenager, but that he lashed out after another faculty member prohibited him from playing with it.

Brendan Depa’s behavioral issues, particularly his autism, do not constitute a defense in Florida, according to the mother.

The teenager was initially charged as a juvenile before the federal raps were upgraded.

The troubled teen had three prior battery arrests before the assault on Naydich and was reportedly involved in a jail fight in September.

Brendan Depa is being held on a $1 million bond. His sentencing hearing will begin in January.

Here's a bonus for you, sick bastards.

leaving her with five broken ribs, hearing loss and what she claims are ongoing cognitive problems.
I have to wonder how bad the cognitive problems are, your body can (probably) heal but if your brain just never quite works the same then I totally understand not having mercy when it comes to the sentencing.

I actually think it's cruel to force people like this to be a part of the education system. All of these plans and protocols do nothing but teach retards that everyone should tip toe around their "triggers". And all of that falls apart when they turn 18 and are no longer part of the education system. No employer will tolerate behavior like this. Neither will the police or society in general. But the retard doesn't understand that so you've just given them false hope because they won't even be able to flip burgers if they cave their boss's head in when he tells them they can't play Pokemon on the clock.

It'd actually be more compassionate to people like this kid to put them in asylums and let them play games, watch TV or color all day.

I hope he suffers horribly in there and his mom gets her ass beat by a white autistic gorilla while grocery shopping.
"Brayden .. Brayden stop stomping on that old woman right now" could be the last thing that retarded woman hears as a 6'3" 18 year old white sped beats her to death after she looks at him for longer than 3 SECONDS.

As it should be.

“I am so sorry for what my son did
Uh-huh. Is your nigger son sorry for what he did?

This is just a list of TNB. And "Oppositional Defiance Disorder" is actually "Boy Who Learns Early That His Single Mother Is Weak And Can't Discipline Him".

The media was too busy outrage farming to bother reporting the facts. Mom didn't think school was an appropriate environment, but the home, the school and the government knew better.

As it turns out, prison is not the appropriate place. The kid needs an institution. I feel terrible for this mom who thought she could give him a better life but even though she got him as an infant, he was already ruined. Ruined by a crack whore mom and genetics.

You know what from what I read in the OP I was thinking, Mum tried to send him to a "normal" school to try an get a bit of peace at home, but after reading that I can see she did honestly understand the situation and didn't want him there but was in a situation where she had no say in the matter and it resulted in this situation.

The "Kid" while he has serious problems is doped up and still prone to outbursts, not just behaviourally but physically and is large enough to pose a threat too others and a school setting wasn't the best for him he wasn't going to learn anything, he wasn't going to progress into a functional member of society he needed a long term inpatient care facility.

Shutting down asylums has been a disaster. He is big, violent, and crazy.

As I said above this is the sort of case that a lifelong care facility should be for, the Education system is wasted on them as they are simply beyond education after a certain point and will never enter anything approaching even a normal life - when the family (an in this case I will say it was a well meaning an educated on the situation family) can no longer manage need to be able to say that it's best for them and society at large that a containment facility is most likely the best option.

You cannot be a functional member of society if their needs to be a protocol for how to deal with you specifically.

Feeble-minded or not if you react this violently to a minor inconvenience then prison is where you belong.

You haven't heard of the "neurodivergent" movement yet then I take it. They believe there is no such thing as mental illness or impairment, no matter the type or severity, only mental "diversity".. As for all the problems they have and cause.. well that's society's fault, as we have failed to "make room" for the full diversity of human mental state/ability. It's society's responsibility to make room for them. They tend to outright oppose even the idea of treatment or cures. (up to and including things like paranoid schizophrenia... a truly terrifying idea.. as anyone who's had to deal with one, or even most sufferers, will tell you) They have already worked their way into a few autism orgs and forced them to stop supporting research into cures or treatments. High functioning autist get to dictate what autists who can't even dress themselves are allowed to hope for.

Total scum.. and in a way, even more mentally impaired than the actual mentally ill! Ideologically impaired morons.

Social justice types are already using their terms and governments (including the US) are already starting to as well. International orgs and NGOs even more so.

And he's going to get one.

P/L: there are ZERO circumstances under which you will find me even slightly empathetic towards these violent autistic monsters. I know too well just how terrifying it is to be a young child and have one forced into your classroom. It creates an atmosphere of fear for all the normal kids and the teacher.
The best thing that could've happened is if he'd attacked a cop and got himself euthanised.

Not surprising, you wouldn't know it from fictional movies but IRL, being beaten enough to pass out always causes some level of brain damage.

Yuzu is correct. Neurological studies are just gaining enough functional imaging power to understand that even what seems like a "minor" head trauma can cause diffuse neuronal injury throughout the brain due to what is essentially a shockwave that travels through the brain from the point of impact.

"Neurodiversity" is one big scam.

Unfortunately, in her case, it is unlikely she will ever be the same mentally. The brain does not have the regenerative capabilities of most of the body.

The group home probably faces dual pressures to have kids enrolled in school. There's the militant inclusion crowd, who believes in making sure disabled kids are mainstreamed-- even to the point of distress (theirs or others). Then there are usually issues with budgets for staffing at care homes, so they probably need to maximize the hours they can make them the school's responsibility.

Money and politics.
Mainstreaming has been a disaster for both disabled kids and the normal kids forced to deal with them.
This is what an asylum is for.
Never should have been closed.
They could make this guy even more of a walking zombie (i.e. whatever the modern version of thorazine is)
I know they give risperidone for autistic rage but it's probably not strong enough for him.
