If you look up Epik it's a lot of discussion about how bad they are, mostly involving a poorly handled data breach.

Isn't verisign the registrar for .net domains? How can Epik seize those?

Verisign is the controller of the TLD. All other registrars selling .net domains have an API to add, update and delete records there. Which means, like the incident with every other domain, the one that Josh pays has control, and in some cases like .pl there are other intermediate registrars.

I remember when I ran SS, one of my domains was suspended by Epik and they put up a park page for it. I called Rob Monster and I was told to contact Rob Davis, which was SVP of communications at the time. At around 2-3 AM in the morning he proceeded to tell me that I was no longer welcome as a customer at Epik after putting up a mirror website to prevent the users of my forum from panicking.

He cussed me out and called me the "devil" and a bunch of other nasty stuff I wish I would have recorded.

At the end of the day, I moved all my domains from them and never looked back, and then a month or so after that, they ended being hacked and a bunch of information ended up getting exposed.

Epik has also been embroiled with a bunch of debt due to issuing a bunch of Masterbucks that they failed to back.

They've been a very sketchy company ever since and this is just another reason that people should stay away from them.
