AudioPhiles are full of shit

What you said is fucking retarded but you are right about one thing, there are a lot of lolcows in the audiophile sphere and an impeccable thread full of lulz could be made about them. I recently learned there are people who choose the land they wanna build a house on depending on its distance from the transformer station, so that they can draw "cleaner power" through their $10,000 power cables into their $1 million speakers. Or saw a guy on some forums way back who was gushing about some highly specific piece of shit Grundig CD player from the 80s and how it was easily better than units costing thousands and improved the treble clarity and soundstage so much.

die audiophile scum

There's a lot of spergery and snake oil in audiophile circles, sure, but the other end of the scale and saying there's no difference in quality between cheap headphones and more expensive ones is also bogus. It's a lot like video quality, actually. You get diminishing returns the "further up" you get. 720p looks noticeably better than 480p, 1080p looks a little bit better than 720p, 4K looks barely better than 1080p. A lot of people who obsess over sound and picture quality could save themselves a lot of money if they weren't concerned over improvements that are barely perceptible to the human senses.

there is sometimes a difference but i get used to the cheaper ones again after like a day also 720p is noticeable but after that like you said the rest is BS so people being like I NEED 4K ULTRA WIDE SURROUND SOUND etc are pretentious autists

Make this thread. I have to know more.

This specific example (with the guy choosing land) was told to me by a guy working at a very snobby snake oil audiophile store, I'm talking right in the heart of the city, across the street from a Patek Philippe boutique kinda snobby. In that moment I couldn't believe he kept a straight face while telling me the story because I sure as shit didn't.

I'll look around and see if I can still find any of the crazy boomer forums I used to peruse. It's really funny shit.

Audiophiles are tortured souls living in a hell of their own creation. They can NEVER be satisfied. Do not pity them, only those that live with/near them.

Back in the day long distance carriers made a huge deal over the clarity of their connections. The whole "you can hear a pin drop" advertising campaign for example. Then cell phones came along and people realized that sound quality takes a huge back seat to convenience.

I’d argue that we have really high quality and affordable audio setups these days, so unless you’re super autistic the quality of the sound will be more than enough with the most basic of modern setups.
But man, ask someone who was there for vynil. Sound systems back then were expensive as fuck and became a dick measuring contest for whoever had the best ones. It’s like how TVs went, they just got cheaper, better, and less of a big deal.
