How new are you? You post this from your phone I guess. You probably wonder if the computer is the box or the screen.

I've never really seen the ordeal with 4chan posts being fake so long as they aren't serious or world-impacting in a fashion that'd matter (and they almost never are).

I remember back in mid-ish 2008 on /r9k/ there was a poster claiming he was a mercenary living in Africa and supplied images which seemed authentic, including a picture of a Saharan sunset with a timestamp. His supposed anecdotes were quite enthralling and vivid, and at worst this was a guy with a good sense of prose and writing about a fucked up lifestyle in a fucked up place during a fucked up time.

Personally, I thought it was some dude traveling and deciding to make shit up, and many other posters did as well, accusing him of being fake. His response was "If I'm lying, then you get an interesting fairy tale. If I'm telling the truth, then you get an interesting true story."

At that point it just clicked for me, who gives a shit if it's fake? So long as it's constructive or entertaining, it does the job. If it's neither, I ignore it and the poster is gay. Any further cerebration is unnecessary.

It's hard to tell if there really are bots or attempts at killing anon culture, it might just be that the anons who visit the site now are that rock stupid or uninteresting. Remember, the site keeps getting more and more mainstream, every few years we have an influx of redditors or worse that flood the site and fail to embrace the culture.
4chan has been main stream since /b/ was big. The problem with 4chan is everyone functional uses social media instead. Facebook is not full of tranny's posting incest threads when you want to talk about video games
It took me a long time to realize that, but the IB format is just bad and it should just die already, it is too easy for third parties to exploit it even more so in the age of chatGPT. And yeah, there is one or two posts that are interesting or funny, but it isn't really worth scavenging for those anymore. We are also entering an age where anons are just terminally porn sick giga coomer brainlets and it will just get worse from here. Maybe what the Internet needs is more forums like Kiwi Farms.
Chat GPT isn't anything special. It's a chat bot with a very large pool to create sentences from. They have existed for decades and there's no need to waste one on 4chan. You can copy and paste the same thread repeatedly. Why waste cycles with a chat bot when you have an archived thread and your bots will loop it forever. It's realistic because it was written by people but it's irrelevant noise because it's selected to do that job.
Generative models pose an extreme threat to anonymous posting, but they also do so to almost every account-based website. For example, it's pretty easy to find posts that were clearly written by ChatGPT-likes in certain Twitter reply chains, although I'm not sure what the motivation behind those is.

I kind of hope this pushes digital communication towards decentralized networks you only share with the people you want, at least then you could escape the online lumpenproletariat that infests everything now.
Decentralized networks to normies is Discord. Servers are their own micro websites with their own moderation and rules. You would have to convince people to give up Discord and they won't do that.

4channers, even in their current degenerate state, generally pick up on that. ChatGPT can look more credible than just some spambot.

Wasn't "reddit spacing" when there would be multiple linebreaks in between each paragraph because on Reddit if you only did one it wouldn't post it that way?
If you had paragraph after each sentence, that was the dead give away for a redditor. Having paragraphs for each theme/"chapter" in a post is a indicator of effort posting.

4chins predates plebbit by a mere 2 years. It really says a lot when someone gets so assblasted about a mere suggestion of him using the latter. Whatever floats your boat, nigger. Just don't try to act all high and mighty, you're in a cesspool and I will rightfully call you a faggot then proceed to close the tab.

"Reddit spacing" is itself a meme made up by redditor election tourists. You can view a few of the oldest archived posts of /b/ that even exist on the IA (from before moot had to switch the top-level domain) to see Anons "reddit space".

(btw: notice how none of the replies have any pics attached because image replies were yet to be invented)

I honestly believe there are bots. I remember when moot got mad at /pol/ for calling him a cuck so he turned off captcha for few days or something. The board was absolutely flooded with spam which was impossible for human to do.
There were always posters that behaved like bots(gonna post this fish at strange hours until you like it or derail posters etc) but it didn't look like spam. 4chan is a an unreadable mess.
