From general observation CO seems to have fired the silent gun for civil war. If you can trump up nonexistent charges with no due process on any candidate and disqualify them from running, that means people can't vote for them. You break the union because it sets precedent that cuts both ways, red states or swing states could in theory do the same thing at the last minute and thus leave the country leaderless because a trail would be chaos not to mention take forever. I think you're thinking of Brutus's party being attacked by the mob after Mark Antony's speech, rather than Antony himself being attacked. And if that was made up it was by Shakespeare at the least, not the show writers. The device of having two fictionalised characters weaved in and out of recorded events obviously leaves some details themselves fictitious, but I think many elements were accurate. But I recognized that speech as specifically from the show and was just checking it wasn't actually from recorded histories.

There is very few speeches written down in pre-modern times. The people who were there just rattle off a few bullet points of topics touched by the speech, the tone it was given in -- if you're lucky, the reasoning and context to why the speech was given will be included. Its only around the 1500-1600s do we start getting the full text of any speech given. If you see text claiming to be a speech from before the 1500s its almost a fabrication by someone later on.
