A few weeks ago, I attended the first NY Trans & Gender Non-Conforming Work Summit co-hosted by McKinsey & Company and JPMorgan Chase & Co. Folks, the data is not looking good.
Over 520 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced in state legislatures in 47 states during 2023, a new record that has doubled since 2022, where the primary target is queer people and Trans youth. This is heartbreaking, 75% of transgender youth feel unsafe at school and 60% of Trans people say safety was the biggest factor in choosing their industry.

You might say, "Okay, this is all so awful, what can I do?" Kevin Jennings in a fireside chat with Dani D'Amico tells us:

Use your voice. Call your representatives
Use your vote. Vote in EVERY election, including the local ones
Use your time. Donate your time to non-profits like Lambda Legal and TransNewYork
Use your money. Individuals account for the highest bulk of donations, 64% of donations come from individuals vs the 6% that come from corporations.

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you can't make a difference, they want you to believe that, but never let them take away your power, your voice, your hope.

Be a Trans ally at work and everywhere . Even though Trans are so widely unsupported, they are the ones who show up the most for others. Research shows that transgender employees are more likely than cisgender employees to be allies to women of color, and Trans POC show the highest commitment to driving DEI progress in comparison to other people.
